General Summary
Responsible for the safety, supervision, administration, and efficiency of the mechanical crew. Coaches’ direct reports to increase efficiency.
Principal Duties and Accountabilities (Essential Functions)
- Supervise, train, coach and develop the mechanical maintenance crew to achieve departmental goals in a manner that creates employee ownership.
- Function as a leader in performing work safely and promoting safety conscious behavior of plant employees while always ensuring a safe working environment.
- Organize, administrate, and oversee jobs that the mechanical crew is working on.
- Responsible for the efficiency and safe execution of work orders.
- Responsible for continuous improvement of the methodology used for repairs, especially for repetitive jobs.
- Responsible for the evaluation, resolution, or proposal for resolution of problems that affect overall equipment efficiency and implementing long term solutions.
- Implementation and enforcement of consistent use of mechanic best practices and precision maintenance tools.
- Efficiently use resources assigned for the job (personnel, equipment, materials, time) to deliver the expected and committed results in a timely manner.
- Ensure that workers observe safe work practices and perform work assignments within MSHA and Company established safety guidelines.
- Coach mechanical crew to ensure they follow the best practices and use precision maintenance tools when required. Supervisor is expected to visit with workers in the field several times per day to be on the top of any issues that may arise during the execution of jobs and to provide insights.
- Follow and enforce Company policies and procedures of all assigned personnel.
- Complete reports, forms and other paperwork associated with activities, including but not limited to safety forms, environmental forms, schedules, etc.
- Administrate work order logs and keep them organized on proper drives. Properly close work orders in TMT (timely and with explanation of work performed, materials used, etc.) to ensure accurate records and equipment history.
- Coordinate maintenance work with other departments to enhance overall equipment efficiency and maximize production.
- Prioritize execution of workload. Visit the job site prior to scheduling to ensure all contingencies were considered before sending crew to execute the job.
- Responsible for daily updates to the weekly schedule with hours used for each job, including unplanned jobs, etc.
- Coordinate with Planner and Reliability Engineer to ensure the right priorities are set and the right jobs are planned and scheduled. Coordinate with stockroom/procurement to ensure the right parts are supplied.
- Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and provide recommendation for capital expenditures.
- Ensure employees observe safe work practices and perform work assignment within MSHA and Capitol established safety guidelines.
- Investigate and define modifications on equipment that need to be implemented to enhance equipment reliability.
- Read and use equipment documentation (manuals, drawings, and other technical information) to understand failure modes of equipment.
- Assigns and specifies scheduled and unscheduled jobs to contractors.
- Perform other supervisory duties as assigned.

Educational Skills and Experience

High school degree or equivalent
- 8 years of experience in the Cement Industry in the area of Maintenance.
- 4 years of demonstrated experience working in a Cement Plant in the capacity of Supervisor is required.
- Complete understanding of the equipment of a cement industry.

- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to apply situational leadership and develop a team environment.
- Ability to express opinions and disagreements in a respectful way while maintaining an open mind and positive attitude, especially when things don’t go the way it is expected.
- Ability to work as part of a team, as well as complete assigned tasks independently with little direct supervision. Self-starter.
- Willingness to learn new techniques and methods to perform maintenance.
- Strong decision-making skills demonstrated through the rapid implementation of best practices, evaluation of results and execution of the corrective actions in cases where the results were not the expected.
- Strong knowledge about equipment of a cement plant (components, their function ability, failure modes). Knowledge of hydraulic systems.
- Trustworthy and unbiased when providing information.
- Organization and planning.
- Flexibility to adapt to rapid changing plant situations.
- Strong and effective communications skills with ability to communicate technical information to non-technical team members. Must possess ability to communicate and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and co-workers.

- Trouble shooting skills by applying common sense and technical knowledge.
- Self-starter.
- Ability to exercise common sense in the operation and safety of all equipment, machinery, and vehicles; to work under pressure to solve problems, meet deadlines in performing work in a timely fashion.
- Proficient in using Windows and Microsoft Office
