REPORTS TO: General Manager of Accounting and Finance
DESCRIPTION: Direct the financial affairs of the company and prepares financial analyses of operation, including interim and financial statements with supporting schedules, for the guidance of management. Maintain the company's system of accounts and keeps books and records on all company transactions and assets. Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts, instruct and maintain other planning and control procedures and analyzes and reports variances. Direct the activities of the accounting department staff and insure the effectiveness and efficiency of the staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support accounting policies for the company and prepares reports which outline the company's financial position in the areas of income, expenses and earnings based on past, present and future obligations
- Determine depreciation rates to apply to capitalized items and advise management of desirable operational adjustments due to tax revisions
- Support the company's financial plans and policies, its accounting practices, the conduct of its relationships with lending institutions and the financial community, the maintenance of its fiscal records and the preparation of financial reports
- Supervise general accounting, property accounting, internal auditing, cost accounting and budgetary controls
- Develop, analyze and interpret statistical and accounting information in order to appraise operation results in terms of profitability, performance against budget, and other matters
- Supervise the work of accounting clerks in the areas of accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management and payroll and evaluate the performance of the individuals and make recommendations and changes when needed
- Along with the accounting staff, the accounting manager works closely with other departments or individuals on problems involving accounting systems and financial planning
- Provide the organization with the appropriate financial and operating information necessary to facilitate corporate and department planning and results measurement
- Accelerate cash receipts and control disbursements, oversee bank balances, maintain lines of credit and banking relationships, recommend investment vehicles, establish and maintain credit and collation procedures and evaluate and implement computerized accounting systems
- Authorities for an employee are granted by means of work instructions, policies and procedures and/or direction provided by management to meet the requirements of the customer
EDUCATION:
- BS-BA degree in accounting
- CPA or MBA
EXPERIENCE:
- Three to five years' experience in accounting in private industry.
- Knowledge of computer based operations and associated programs
SKILLS:
- Thorough knowledge on accounting principles and systems
- Must possess above average math skills.
OTHER:
- Strong interpersonal and analytical skills
- Must be able to work independently in the absence of supervision.
- Must be able to work overtime as required, including Saturdays for inventory purposes
Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Physical Demands:
This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary
