BASIC PURPOSE

We’re seeking a Planning Coordinator who’s passionate about shaping the future of public transportation in Pinellas County. In this role, you'll drive transit planning initiatives and ensure the smooth operation of the department through expert administrative support. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of transit plans, projects, and programs to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency.
- Provide administrative support to the Chief Planning and Community Affairs Officer, including scheduling meetings, preparing reports, and managing department communications.
- As directed by the Chief Planning and Community Affairs Officer, this position may also support Planning Department activities. Collect, analyze, and present data related to ridership, performance metrics, and service needs to inform decision-making and future planning.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including government agencies and community organizations, to ensure alignment with overall transit goals.
- Manage project timelines, track deliverables, and assist in preparing proposals, presentations, and grant applications.
- Conduct research on emerging transit trends, policies, and best practices to support ongoing planning efforts.
- Coordinate public outreach and engagement efforts for community input on transit initiatives.
- Maintain department records, track budgets, and assist in preparing reports for senior management and public meetings.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Transportation, or a related field is preferred or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
- Experience: At least 2 years of experience in administrative duties with exposure to transit planning, urban planning, or a related field.
- Preferred: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience using planning software and GIS tools is preferred.
- License Requirement: Must possess or obtain and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to recognize priorities and be pro-active in anticipating administrative needs.
- Strong understanding of transit planning principles, methods, and practices, including route analysis and service optimization.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail in data analysis and reporting.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear, concise reports and present information effectively.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, and transit users.
- Familiarity with budget management, grant writing, and project coordination in a public sector environment.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local transit regulations and policies is a plus.
