About the Job
Position Summary:
Responsible for installation, assembly, fabrication, and maintenance of piping systems for ship interiors/exteriors, and shipyard buildings at our 63-acre facility.
Job Responsibilities:
* Follows directions under intermittent supervision.
* Cut, thread, or bend pipes to specifications.
* Lay out full-scale drawings of pipe systems, supports, or related equipment, according to blueprints.
* Assemble or secure pipes, tubes, fittings, or related equipment, according to specifications, by welding, brazing, or threading joints.
* Measure and mark pipes for cutting or threading.
* Inspect, examine, or test installed systems or pipelines, using pressure gauge, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods.
* Plan pipe system layout, installation, or repair, according to specifications.
* Attach pipes to walls, structures, or fixtures.
* Modify, clean, or maintain pipe systems, units, fittings, or related machines or equipment.
* Cut or bore holes in structures.
* Install automatic controls to regulate pipe systems.
* Shut off steam, water, or other gases or liquids from pipe sections, using valve keys or wrenches.
* Remove and replace worn components.
* Operate motorized pumps to remove water from flooded manholes, basements, or facility floors.
* Diagnose and solve problems of all kinds.
* Troubleshoot problems with all equipment as it arises.
* Proper storage of equipment.
* May be assigned miscellaneous tasks outside craft as required.
* Attendance is an essential function of the job.

Minimum Qualifications:
* Must be a U.S. Person
* Must be 18 years or older
* A self-starter who can work with minimal supervision on an 8 for 8 basis
* Ability to work at heights, confined spaces, and inclement weather
Desired Qualifications:
* 3 years of experience preferred
* Prior shipyard experience a plus
* Prior pipefitting apprentice/training
* Ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects
* Ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer)
* Ability to imagine how something will look after it is moved around or when its parts are moved or rearranged
* Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong
* Ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and legs
* Ability to work while kneeling, crouching, squatting, lying down, overhead, etc.
* Ability to keep or regain your body balance or stay upright when in an unstable position
* Ability to concentrate on a task without being distracted
* Ability to quickly respond to a signal when it appears
* Ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry object
