Job Title: Pipe Welder
Location: Various Job Site and Locations.
Hourly Rate: Depending on Experience.
About Us: We are a veteran owned mechanical contractor, supplies welding, machining, heat treating and NDE services to the power and process industries. We specialize in delivering piping and boiler services through planned outages, emergent work, and/or staff augmentation.
Summary: We are looking for skilled Combo welders with a minimum of five years’ experience in commercial/naval setting. As a combo pipe welder you will be responsible for using Stick, Mig, Tig and Flux Core welding techniques to weld various components in flat, vertical or overhead positions.
Responsibilities:
- Multi-pass. All positions fillet and butt welds using the SMAW process.
- Ability to fuse inserts and weld carbon steel, stainless steel and copper nickel pipe using both SMAW and GTAW processes.
- Ability to mirror weld using SMAW and GTAW processes.
- Heating – Oxygen/Propane Heating Torch.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations relative to the shipbuilding industry.
- Ability to properly use fillet gauges, butt gauges, and a six inch scale.
- Ability to pass computer based training (CBT’s)
- Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures.
- Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements.
- Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements)
- Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead)
- Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
- Operate grinders to prep piping and steel for welding
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as welder with attention to detail.
- Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures.
- Experience in using electrical or manual tools.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.
- Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.)
- Ability to work with minimal supervision as well as working as part of a team.
- Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel extensively and work variable hours.
- Able to pass background screens and drug/alcohol testing as required by our customers.
- TWIC card a plus.
- Ability to work 10+ hours per day, up to 7 days/week
- Ability to work in both hot and cold conditions
- Ability to work in confined spaces if needed
- Ability to bend, kneel, climb, and work at heights
- Ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds and lift up to 20 pounds overhead
