Position Overview:The pipe fitter installs and manages the upkeep of various pipe equipment and systems. Their main duties include reviewing plumbing system blueprints, fixing pipe and plumbing systems and ensuring pipes meet the proper specifications. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: The following duties and responsibilities are not all-inclusive and are subject to change. The position performs additional duties as requested to meet the priorities and ongoing needs of the organization. - Follow detailed work and plans of installation per project under a supervisor and per contract
- Lay out, fit-up, and install by cutting, grinding, and welding for various previously mentioned piping systems while avoiding interference to other workers and trades through coordination.
- Cut pipe using various standard trade methods using saws, angle grinders, pipe cutters, cutting torches, and band saw cutting machines.
- Roll groove/thread pipe utilizing a threading machine/hand dyes as well as pipe grooving machine.
- Bend pipe using hand pipe bending tools and pipe bending machine.
- Assemble, connect, and install a variety of metal and non-metal pipes, tubes, and fittings, including carbon and stainless steel, copper, HDPE, and PVC. using threaded, grooved, soldered, brazed, fused, and arc and solvent welding methods.
- Secure pipes to structure with brackets, anchors, pipe stands, clamps, and hangers.
- Installs HVAC components and equipment including, but not limited to: Chillers, Cooling Towers, Heat Exchangers, Boilers, Pumps, Air
- Handlers, Fan Coils, VAV’s using hand tools.
- Inspect work for quality control through a correct installation and following best practices per specifications.
- Able to assist in testing of pipe system and observe connected pressure gauge to test system for leaks. Repair leaks and/or voids as required by specifications and/or Company.
Qualifications and Requirements:To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. - Advanced ability to read, and understand blueprints, schematics, technical service manuals, professional publications, contracts, and procedures
- Proficient understanding of the National Electric Code
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, use of the Internet, email, and industry related programs
- Proficiency in critical thinking, data analysis, and problem resolution
- Advanced knowledge of OSHA standards
- Exceptional ability to actively listen and communicate effectively (written, verbal and nonverbal)
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships, both internal and external
- Requires self-motivation, organization, prioritization, and time management
- Adhere to Gregory Electric’s safety rules and company policies
Education Requirements:- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Technical degree, 2-3 yrs. of estimating experience, construction management, or a combination of education, training and/or field experience
- Successful completion of the Apprenticeship Training Program (preferred)
Physical Requirements:- Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds
- Capable of wearing OSHA required personal protective equipment
- Ascend and descend ladders, scaffolding, and related equipment
- Continually required to talk, hear, and see
- Required to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, bend, push or pull
- Reaches with hands/arms in full range of motion and full use of hands and fingers
Work Environment: In performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
