An ABPN-certified Psychiatrist will receive a salary premium over a non-ABPN-certified Psychiatrist. If the Psychiatrist attains ABPN certification during UCHC employment, the Psychiatrist’s salary will be increased to reflect the premium. A Psychiatrist must maintain ABPN-certification in order to retain this premium. If ABPN-certification lapses, the premium will be removed.

Posting Summary
Rutgers University Correctional Health Care ( UCHC ) is seeking a Physician Specialist (Psychiatrist) for the Southwoods State Prison, located in Bridgeton, NJ. The Physician Specialist provides direct clinical care to state prisoners, functions collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and maintains effective communication with staff and administration.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Provides assessments, direct clinical care and treatment to inmates.
- Conducts comprehensive psychiatrist assessments (demonstrating a review of the electronic record, psychotropic medications, history of mental illness, prior psychiatric hospitalization, suicidal, unusual or bizarre behavior) for new admissions to UCHC’s Special Needs roster according to established time frames.
- Orders, initiates and interprets laboratory tests according to required time frames or as medically necessary.
- Conducts adequate and timely civil psychiatric commitment evaluations. Adequately completes required peer reviews or other audits within required time frames.
- Participates in treatment planning.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Eligible for certification or certified by the American Board Psychiatry and Neurology ( ABPN ) in Psychiatry with valid NJ medical license, CDS and NJ DEA . Computer Literacy,
- Valid Driver’s License. Possesses own vehicle or have alternative means of transportation from one site to another.
- Forensic psychiatry preferred.

Must be approved by the Department of Corrections ( DOC ) and adhere to all DOC requirements.
