The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek a Vice-Chair of Clinical Operations to join the Department of Pathology. Academic rank and track commensurate with academic record and experience.
Position Overview
The Vice Chair of Clinical Operations is appointed by the Chair of the Department of Pathology and will have the oversight responsibility related to clinical operations, including the histology and immunohistology labs and gross rooms, including quality, protocol and guideline development and review, and clinical faculty recruitment. The Vice Chair of Clinical Operations will align the department clinical mission with that of the medical center ensuring high-quality care through the standardization of clinical practice, program implementation and development.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Ensure high-quality care through the standardization of clinical practice and program implementation.
- Elevate the department’s level of excellence and reputation, both nationally and internationally.
- Oversight of clinical operations for Digital Pathology and Clinical Informatics including BEAKER, working closely and meeting monthly with Directors
- Develop and oversee new and existing clinical and laboratory programs. Seek and encourage operational improvements as required, particularly those impacting clinical workflow.
- Lead clinical faculty recruitment and onboarding and play a role in staff recruitment.
- Develop, mentor, and support less experienced physicians and leaders in the department.
- Oversee the Divisional physician clinical schedule for AP and CP (schedule made by Operational Manager and AP/CP Physician Director) and work with clinical operations team to make improvements and help balance workload.
- Monitor and be involved in compliance of metrics including quality, seminal events and other reported events, and TAT.
- Oversee clinical outreach activities and schedules.
- Maintain professional affiliations and enhance professional growth and development to remain current in the changing healthcare trends as related to management of clinical operations and billing.
- Work with the Chair, Department Administrator and Finance Manager to actively participate in budget efforts.
- As a member of the Chair staff, the Vice Chair of Clinical Operations will be expected to attend weekly Executive and AP operational meetings.
- Ensure that Directors of AP, CP and MP meet with their faculty at least quarterly to ensure engagement and teamwork and attend these meetings. Meet individually with the Directors at least monthly.
- Attend all major departmentwide events and strongly encourage directors to attend whenever possible as well: The prioritized meetings include Grand Rounds, Resident meet and greet, Resident picnic, Holiday party, von Haam graduation and award event, and faculty interview talks.
- Meet with division directors of AP, CP, MP, DP and informatics and specific faculty as needed to help with interpersonal conflicts and division specific challenges.
Requirements
- Successful completion of a Pathology Resident
- Board Certified in Pathology
- Qualify for an academic appointment at the associate or full professor level – Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with previous training and experience

Their primary career focus centers on research, service, and teaching. Tenure-track faculty with MD or MD/PhD degrees may also be involved in clinical care.?
Research Faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Research faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of one to five years. Their principal career focus is research.?
