About the Job
The Inpatient Hospice & Palliative Care team is seeking a compassionate Physician to join them providing consults to adult patients who present to the Emergency Department.
Corewell Health emergency departments experience high volumes of patients with serious illnesses who require complex symptom management and end-of-life care discussions often leading to prolonged ED stays, suboptimal patient experiences, undesired and inappropriate hospital admissions, high cost of care, reduced patient and provider satisfaction and overall reduced quality of care.
As a Hospice & Palliative Care physician who partners with the ED you will work with our interdisciplinary team by approaching patients to provide health literacy, ascertain goals and then collaborate to find an appropriate disposition. The ED embedded Palliative Care team can manage symptoms, facilitate goals-of-care discussions, and coordinate with other healthcare providers to improve patient outcomes, reduce hospital admissions, and enhance overall patient and family and provider satisfaction.

Opportunity Highlights:
- Functions in the role of Palliative Care Physician to coordinate comprehensive care delivery for patients in the ED.
- Ensures that operations are in compliance with professional standards, applicable laws, accreditation, compliance/regulatory requirements and that organizational goals are being followed. Practices in accordance with the Michigan Public Health Code.
- Delivers care in a manner that is culturally sensitive and preserves patient autonomy, dignity and rights. Acts as a patient advocate, crossing multidisciplinary lines to meet patient needs
- Communicates, collaborates, networks with and acts as a consultant to other members of the health care team within and outside Corewell Health. Acts as a consult in area of expertise.
- Documents in the medical record and dictates information as appropriate.
Qualifications:
- License - Michigan MD/DO
- BE/BC in Hospice & Palliative Care or another specialty with demonstrated strong Palliative Care experience
- Certification - Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Certification - Adv Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
