Description | Chief, General Pediatrics West Virginia University School of Medicine and the Department of Pediatrics seeks a full-time, board-certified pediatrician to serve as the Chief of General Pediatrics (ranks available: open rank). The successful candidate will be expected to practice in Morgantown, WV. Duties: The Chief will oversee and be responsible for the clinical practice, teaching endeavors, scholarship, advocacy, and community service of the Division of General Pediatrics. He or she will practice in a rapidly growing academic teaching clinic that is an NCQA certified Patient-Centered Medical Home. In addition to providing excellent patient care, the successful candidate will also be actively involved in teaching medical students, residents, and learners of other professions. Candidates with a significant interest, experience, and aptitude for operations and quality will also be considered for the additional role of medical director of all the children’s hospital clinics. Qualifications: Candidate must have an MD or DO degree or foreign equivalent and be eligible to obtain a state medical license. Successful candidate must have completed pediatrics residency program and be board certified in Pediatrics. For appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor ranks, a demonstrated track-record of leadership, excellent communication skills, and publications in high-impact journals are required. All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment. With an anticipated opening in September of 2022, our new 150 bed Children’s Hospital will have a full suite of pediatric operating rooms, cardiac catheterization lab/interventional radiology, and GI-endoscopy with dedicated pediatric anesthesia staff. The hospital will include 34 pediatric beds, 54 NICU beds, 26 PICU beds, Heart Center, and a dedicated Cancer Center. WVU Medicine Children’s is a Level 2 Pediatric Trauma Center, with plans to become Level 1, as it is for adults currently. There will also be a Birthing Center including a 30-bed obstetrical unit and maternal-fetal medicine clinic. J. W. Ruby Memorial Hospital is the only hospital in West Virginia with a pediatric cardiac surgery program, the only epilepsy monitoring unit in the state equipped to serve children, and the only hospital in the state to receive Magnet status for nursing excellence.
