Job Posting: Physical Therapy Assistant
Location: Physical Therapy Department, Naval Health Clinic Lemoore, CA
Work Schedule:
- Days: Monday through Friday
- Hours: 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM
- Shifts: 8.5, 9, or 10.5 hours with a 30-minute to 1-hour lunch break
- Maximum Hours: 80 hours per two-week period
Qualifications:
- Degree: Associate’s Degree
- Education: Graduate from a college or university accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE)
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross (must present proof of current certification).
- Certifications must be maintained at no cost to the government.
- Experience: Minimum of one year of experience as a Physical Therapy Assistant after graduation.
- Board Certification: None
- Licensure/Registration: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Physical Therapy Assistant or possess current certification as a Physical Therapy Assistant/Technician as determined by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out a program of corrective exercise and treatment for assigned patients, as directed by the physical therapist.
- Administer treatments such as exercise, gait training, massage, whirlpool, hot packs, diathermy, ultrasound, paraffin, ice packs, and traction under supervision.
- Instruct patients on segments of the program including proper use of wheelchairs, crutches, braces, and prosthetic appliances.
- Administer traction to relieve neck and back pain using intermittent and static traction equipment.
- Instruct, motivate, and assist patients to learn and improve functional activities.
- Observe patients during treatments, compile and evaluate data on patients' responses, and report to the physical therapist.
- Fit, adjust, and train patients in the use and care of orthopedic braces, prostheses, and supportive devices such as crutches, canes, walkers, and wheelchairs.
- Collaborate with physical therapy staff and other health team members to plan, modify, and coordinate treatment programs.
- Coordinate with other departments and clinic staff to provide comprehensive patient care.
- Perform inventory control of all pharmaceuticals in the pharmacy, especially scheduled pharmaceuticals, and ensure pharmacy security. Maintain appropriate records and security of all scheduled controlled substances according to applicable regulations.
