POSITION: Physical Therapist
JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for treatment of patients and communication with staff, patients, patient families and physicians. This includes providing direct patient care, demonstrating fiscal awareness, assisting with maintenance and operation of the department.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelors Degree or higher with a major in Physical Therapy
- Licensed by the Physical Therapy Board of California as a Physical Therapist
- Current CPR or Basic Life Support certification
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Strong communication skills with staff, physicians and patients
- Experience with outpatient orthopedic Physical Therapy
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to prioritize work flow in a fast-paced environment
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
1. Accountable for participation in direct patient care
- Review physician referral and medical records to confirm that patient is an appropriate candidate for physical therapy
- Evaluate and assess patient’s condition, performing appropriate tests to determine PT treatment required
- Plan and prepare treatment program in a timely manner based on evaluation findings
- Administer and modify treatment program as indicated.
- Orient, instruct and direct the work of PT Assistants, Athletic Trainers and PT Aides in the administration of above treatment program
- Confer with physicians and other practitioners to obtain additional patient information, suggest revisions in plan of care and integrate PT with other aspects of the patient’s health care
- Regularly demonstrates creativity, skill and efficiency in designing and implementing the physical therapy treatment programs for patients of all types of disabilities and medical problems
- Independently utilizes complex equipment
- Recognizes and reports/alters unsafe patient practices
- Documents initial assessments, daily treatments, reassessments, discharge plans in medical record
- Prepares communications to referring physician on a regular and as needed basis through the course of therapy
2. Accountable for ensuring maintenance and care of the department as an orderly, clean and safe work environment
- Ensures operation and cleanliness of physical therapy equipment according to safety and infection control standards
- Plans, communicates and cooperates with other department personnel in maintaining an orderly, clean, safe work area
- Reports any defective equipment to the PT director
- Ensures proper levels of supplies and equipment in designated areas
- Completes additional job tasks as assigned by the PT Director
3. Accountable for planning and participating in quality review programs
- Plans, develops and attends department in-services, meetings, and educational sessions
- Plans and develops staff professional skills, new programs to improve patient care outcomes
- Promotes the development of criteria for proper utilization of personnel
- Plans and develops educational programs for other personnel, physicians and the community
4. Participates in clinical education programs for University students as they are assigned for rotations within the PT department.
- Includes physical therapy and athletic training students from affiliated schools

Typical Physical Demands
Position requires prolonged standing, bending, stooping, and stretching. Continual patient handling will be required. Good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to treat patients, operate a keyboard, telephone, and other office/PT equipment is also required. Employee must have normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports.

Compensation: $40-$65/hr
