About the Department:
The primary purpose/objective/mission of the Department of Physical Security is to support the mission of the Card Access Security Office (CASO) by providing a safe and secure environment for all university employees, students, and visitors as they pursue their daily work and study activities, consistent with the laws of the Commonwealth and the policies of the University. The department will work collaboratively with academic and administrative units, individuals and organizations in furtherance of the mission of the University.
About the Position:
The Physical Security Technical Coordinator provides oversight of installation of physical security applications and maintenance guidance for the university's CCTV equipment and access control hardware. In addition, the Physical Security Technical Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating projects from initial work order to final commission in an advisory capacity.
The Physical Security Technical Coordinator dispatches technicians to ensure the proper operation of all components of the systems are functional. This includes maintenance of network connectivity and software settings for all connected hardware, ensuring proper documentation of work completed and inventory used.

Responsibilities:
Plans, schedules, and prioritizes tasks and assignments
- Plans, schedules, assigns, and prioritizes projects and assignments in consultation with the Associate Director of Technology Services;
- Communicates status of assignments to appropriate personnel, works cooperatively to schedule projects and assignments in accordance with established procedures and special operational priorities;
- Instructs staff on work procedures. Maintains high levels of communication and documentation through all phases of each project;
- Evaluates products and services and provides recommendations on available technology to best serve the customer and the department;
- Coordinates projects as assigned related to the acquisition and integration of software programs and technical equipment;
- Maintains working relationship with university's Information Technology Services (ITS) personnel; and
- Maintains a working knowledge and familiarization with newest technology and computer software programs.
- Effectively dispatches and supervises Access Control Technicians in performance of their duties to include, but not limited to: patching and servicing network connected systems, repairing and installing access control, alarm, and CCTV systems, and providing oversight for contractors; and
- Provides assistance and guidance to staff with a problem-solving philosophy to better serve the George Mason University community in a caring and professional manner which represents the goals and mission of George Mason University.
- Works with approved vendors to order the proper equipment to maintain the department at a high level;
- Anticipates equipment needs for work orders and projects; and
- Completes/bill work orders in a timely fashion to ensure departmental payment.
- Conducts all work in a timely manner in accordance with established George Mason Access Control standards and policies with a focus on accuracy, customer service, and maintaining security;
- Effectively resolves conflicts and complaints. Serves in on-call capacity for after-hours assistance and emergency call-outs; and
- Attends internal and external meetings related to Access Control and those as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- Demonstrated experience as an Access Control Technician;
- Substantial experience with installation and repair of commercial alarm, card access
