SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Assistant Manager, Retail Sales, this role is responsible for capturing smiles and memories of our visitors by taking and selling souvenir photos in addition to other customized items while providing the highest level of customer service as an ambassador of the Vancouver Aquarium. The Photo Experience Sales Associate‘s main focus is to generate sales by interacting with visitors upon arrival at the entrance, at the Photo Experience stations and throughout the Aquarium.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Positively represents the Vancouver Aquarium and contributes to an exceptional visitor experience through great service by:
- Enthusiastically & professionally greeting and interacting with visitors to capture their souvenir photo upon entering the facility and throughout the Aquarium;
- Promoting the sale of the guest souvenir photos, by taking, editing, processing and selling quality digital photos and other customized items while offering excellent customer service;
- Accurately performing sales transactions for cash, debit, and credit card at point of sale registers;
- Frequently organizing work stations, replenishing stock, conducting inventory, ensuring camera and computer equipment are in good working conditions;
- Represent the Aquarium high standards at all times while wearing VAMSC uniform;
- Positively and confidently communicating information about the facility, events, exhibits including respond to visitors questions about Stanley Park and other places of interests to tourists and residents;
- Supporting various Visitor Experience programs such as conducting visitor surveys, selling of memberships, and providing assistance at the Guest Services desk;
- Participating in the Cross-Training employee program-work at Admissions and Gift Shop;
Consciously desires to improve the Vancouver Aquarium and its processes by:
- Promptly aiding in Emergency protocol;
- Maintaining organizational safety standards;
- Continually improving our impact on the environment and greening of operations through support of EMS protocols;
- Actively demonstrating the Aquarium’s values and expectations for conduct;
- Performs additional duties of a similar nature or level as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Minimum of 2 years high volume retail sales experience selling products; cash handling procedures, cash register – POS, basic computer skills;
- Basic knowledge of camera operation and photo editing would be an asset;
- 2 years Customer Service role experience or equivalent.

Working Conditions
- Job requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time and walk within the facilities;
- Job requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions;
- Must adhere to the uniform & appearances guidelines;
- Job requires the ability to safely lift and carry objects weighing up to 15lbs;
- Potential exposure to upset people in which problem solving will be required;
- Frequent exposure to noise arising from a crowded, busy environment;
- Continual interaction with customers and staff
- Flexibility and availability in schedule are required during the week, including weekends and holidays (occasional overtime during the high season). Please note that the successful candidates must be available to work on Saturdays, Sundays and statutory holidays.
SALARY RANGE: $17 - $19 PER HOUR
