Harrington Family Health Center, a federally qualified health center, is seeking a dedicated and caring Phlebotomist to join our team! In this role, you will be a vital member of the clinical team providing quality care to patients at our Health Center.
Role Overview
As a Phlebotomist, your role will be vital in ensuring the highest standards of patient care, requiring a strong understanding of the best phlebotomy techniques and sterilization practices. You will work closely with our clinical team which includes Providers and Medical Assistants to ensure appropriate testing is completed. You will be expected to perform blood draws competently and expediently with as little patient discomfort as possible, record phlebotomy requisitions, complete testing at the health center, send samples to other medical laboratories for further testing and document encounters professionally and accurately.
A successful candidate for this role will be detail-oriented, team-focused, and dedicated to enhancing the patient experience at Harrington Family Health Center.
Key Responsibilities
· Patient Care
o Verify the identity of each patient by reviewing ID, medical record, or other accepted Health Center method.
o Provide compassionate, high-quality care by effectively communicating with patients through the process when inserting needles and retrieving samples.
o Perform venipuncture and skin punctures competently using the best recognized practices.
o Sanitize the laboratory and properly dispose of biohazardous materials to maintain a safe, clean environment.
o Ensure lab testing area is sufficiently set up with all required instruments and materials prior to each blood draw.
o Label samples accurately, complete appropriate in-house testing, and send samples requiring additional testing to the appropriate medical laboratory.
· Professional Collaboration
o Work closely with the clinical team to ensure thorough and comprehensive patient medical care.
o Participate in interdisciplinary education and supervision to enhance team knowledge and collaboration.
Administrative Duties
o Update electronic medical records (EMR) to ensure patient health information is accurate and current and to update any testing that was completed.
o Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all patient health information privacy regulations.
Qualifications
o Certified Medical Assistant or phlebotomy certification preferred but will train the right candidate
o BLS Certification preferred.
o Provide compassionate and helpful assistance to patients, addressing their concerns and questions regarding the blood draw and testing processes.
o Ensure that all interactions contribute to a positive and efficient patient experience.
o Positive team-oriented individual with great attention to patient care and professional duties.
Requirements
· Education
o A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
o Certified Medical Assistant or phlebotomy certification preferred.
Experience
o Preferred: 1 year of experience as medical assistant or phlebotomist in an outpatient setting.
o Experience with EMR systems: 1 year preferred.
o Previous experience working with members of the community is highly valued.
· Skills
o Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
o Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
o Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively listen to and support patient needs.
o Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Job Type
· Full-time
· Monday to Friday, with 8 or 10-hour shifts available.
Compensation
· $16-18 per hour, commensurate with experience.
