Pharmacy Technician Registration in accordance with the laws and regulations set forth by the State of Connecticut required at hire or within 2-weeks from hire OR Registered Pharmacy Intern License in accordance with the laws and regulations set forth by the State of Connecticut .

High school diploma or equivalent required. College preferred.

Two to three years institutional pharmacy technician experience preferred.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows based computer software systems preferred.
- Valid Connecticut driver’s license required.

- JOB SUMMARY
- The pharmacy technician assists the pharmacist in preparing, distributing medications, performing sterile admixture compounding, maintaining the drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. The pharmacy technician will work only under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist.
- PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Repetitive use of hands and fingers (preparing IV admixtures, use of computer keyboard). May require lifting and carrying light loads (of 20-30lbs), including boxes, equipment, unit dose carts, and IV solutions; and stooping and kneeling. Walking or standing for long periods of time is often necessary. Must be able to physically operate the equipment used for the job. Must have the ability to view written documents.
- COGNITIVE DEMANDS
- The Pharmacy technician solves distribution related problems. Numerous algebraic calculations are required daily to solve admixture and compounding equations.
- WORK DEMANDS
- Ability to perform work accurately with attention to detail within specified periods. Ability to work cooperatively with health-system and pharmacy staff. Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule. Ability to communicate effectively (orally and in writing). Ability to assist in meeting the pharmaceutical care needs of the patient through the supervision of a pharmacist. Job involves possible exposure and handling of the following; latex, antineoplastic and other hazardous drugs.
- ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Fills physician orders, medication carts, Pyxis stations, and/or stock requisitions accurately.
- Replenishes medications in or floor stock areas accurately.
- Prepares intravenous admixtures or other sterile products accurately.
- Delivers medications and supplies to all patient care areas per established schedule.

Maintains adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies and procedures.
- Assists in ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing pharmaceuticals and supplies in appropriate locations.
- Identifies and replaces outdated and unusable drugs.
- Restocks medication and IV dispensing areas accurately within specified time periods.
- Prepackages bulk medications in unit dose packages accurately per established procedures.

Contributes to the effective operation of the department.
- Picks up orders, requisitions, and medications for return from patient care areas when on delivery rounds.
- Generates reports, pick lists, and labels as required.
- Maintains logs, records, and other required documentation accurately. Files documentation in appropriate locations.

Participates in the quality improvement activities of the department.
- Completes and documents all assigned medication storage area inspections at least monthly. Identifies and replaces outdated and unusable drugs.

Maintains competence required for current job title/position.
- Maintains current technician registration.
- Completes all competence/skills assessment requirements and participates in required training programs.

Fills physician orders, medication carts, Pyxis stations, and/or stock requisitions accurately.
