Responsibilities:
- Medication Dispensing and Distribution:
- Assist pharmacists in filling prescriptions accurately and efficiently.
- Count, pour, measure, and package medications according to prescription orders.
- Label prescriptions with appropriate information, including dosage instructions and warnings.
- Administrative Tasks:
- Accurately enter prescription and patient information into the pharmacy computer system.
- Maintain patient profiles and confidential records.
- Inventory Management:
- Coordinate with purchasing and supply chain departments to order supplies and maintain adequate stock levels.
- Rotate stock and conduct periodic inventory audits to prevent expired medications and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Remove expired or recalled medications from inventory and assist with proper disposal.
- Customer Service and Patient Care:
- Greet customers and answer phone calls courteously and professionally.
- Assist patients in dropping off or picking up prescriptions.
- Provide information to patients regarding prescription status and medication instructions under the supervision of a pharmacist.
- Direct patients to the pharmacist for medication counseling when necessary.
- Quality Assurance:
- Perform routine inspections and maintenance of pharmacy equipment.
- Participate in quality assurance activities, such as checking for medication expiration dates and proper storage conditions.
- Assist in maintaining pharmacy cleanliness and organization.
- Compliance and Safety:
- Adhere to pharmacy laws and regulations regarding controlled substances and pharmacy operations.
- Follow established procedures for handling and disposing of medications safely.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment, including proper handling of hazardous materials and adherence to infection control protocols.
- Reports To: Operations Manager, supervised by Lead Pharmacy Technicians
Skills and Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an Ohio Board of Pharmacy approved pharmacy technician training program.
- Licensure: Registration with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy as either a Registered Technician or as a Certified Technician
- Certification: PTCB certification preferred
- Experience: Previous experience as a pharmacy technician or in a related healthcare role is beneficial.
- Core competencies include:
- Knowledge and application of relevant local, state, and federal laws and regulations
- Pharmacy terminology and sig codes
- Understand the importance of active listening, appropriate conversation, and relaying of information among patients, families, and colleagues.
- Basic math skills for performing standard pharmacy calculations.
- Familiarity with pharmacy computer systems and electronic health records (EHR).
Physical Requirements (with or without accommodations):
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to read and interpret hand-written and faxed materials
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
