Job Summary and Qualifications
The Pharmacy Controlled Substance Technician Specialist is an integral role in the oversight of controlled substances and facility regulatory processes. Responsibilities include: managing the controlled substance inventory, providing information needed for the Multidisciplinary Diversion Team (MDT) analysis by using analytical tools, reviewing controlled substance overrides, performing audits and reconciliations, assist during investigations, participation in discrepancy resolutions, responsible for accurately performing advanced and basic pharmacy technician functions in a timely manner. Under the direction of the Director of Pharmacy, oversees recordkeeping and auditing of pharmacy and facility processes regarding to controlled substances
- Ensures adherence to all Board of Pharmacy, Joint Commission, CMS, DEA and FDA standards
- Performs trend analysis and database assessments to detect, identify, and report unusual and potential medication diversion activities
- Optimizes the use of reports and functionality of available technologies (Pyxis, RxAuditor, Meditech) to prevent and identify medication diversion
- Identifies critical issues, prioritize workload and communicates to appropriate personnel any issues in a timely manner
- Oversees/performs a preliminary investigation of identified potential medication diversion in collaboration with Unit Directors
- Completes all education requirements and/or other activities needed to maintain competency
- Complies with facility policy and procedures and regulatory requirements
- Accurately maintains and coordinates required documentation logs
- Assists in the supervision of other technicians to ensure that policies and procedures and regulatory requirements are uniformly and consistently followed
- Job Qualifications you will need:
- High School Diploma or GED Required
- Associate or Bachelor degree Preferred
- 3 Years related Pharmacy experience Preferred
- Past experience with controlled substance diversion surveillance programs Preferred
- Licenses, Certifications, & Training:
- State Board of Pharmacy Registration (if applicable per State) Required
- National Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB) Required
- ASHP Sterile Preparation Institutional Training or Similar Preferred
