About the Job
Job Summary:
- Assists the pharmacist with all technician duties related to the preparation, gathering, labeling, and distribution of medications.
- Maintains working area in clean and orderly condition.
- Inspect drug storage areas; maintain inventory; manage medication supply; and provide technical support services to pharmacists.
- Prepare inpatient/outpatient prescriptions and/or orders; measure and fill patient’s medications; prepare labels; check medication rooms on units; check emergency boxes/code carts to verify locks are intact; check for outdated drugs in accordance with federal, state and accreditation standards.
- May deliver medications or run other errands/tasks as assigned by the pharmacist.

- Perform other job duties as assigned.

- Demonstrates basic understanding of the 340b program.
- Demonstrates basic or advanced knowledge of USP 797 compliance.
- Demonstrates effective communication skills and interaction with staff.
- Demonstrates physical ability required to deliver medications and supplies.
- Demonstrates initiative to maintain/meet licensure and certification requirements.
- Demonstrates ability to perform technician duties as deemed appropriate by management and supervising pharmacist.
- Demonstrates understanding of USP 800 compliance.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills: High school diploma or equivalent required; courses in science and math helpful.
Work Experience: Preferred but not required.

Mental Demands: Ability to perform repetitive tasks, cooperate with others, take orders
and follow directions precisely, and demonstrate initiative. Ability to perform work
accurately with attention to detail within specified time periods. Ability to handle
frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload. Ability to set priorities and
solve problems. Ability to respond quickly to emergency requests. Ability to assist in
meeting the pharmaceutical care needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and
geriatric patients.
Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE
- Registration with the Mississippi State Board of Pharmacy.
Additional Certification/Licensure - Obtained based on required timeframe below
- National Technician Certification Exam. (Within 90 Days of Employment Preferred)
