General Responsibilities:
- Plans, coordinates, directs and evaluates all clinical activities as delegated by the Director of Pharmacy, including supervision of refilling machines, medical prescriptions database entries and dispatch of medicines.
- Plans, coordinates, directs and evaluates all administrative activities as delegated by the Director of Pharmacy, including scheduling of pharmacy technicians tasks, monitoring process compliance and monthly reporting.
- Implements process and procedures to comply with regulations for medicine handling including reception and storage of medicines, inventory and expenses controls.
- Manages day to day activities of the pharmacy technicians and monitors their performance to meet departmental goals.
- In the absence of medicines, communicates with nursing, doctors and administrative areas to provide alternatives and also makes and/or supervises preparation of interveinal drugs.
- Maintains pharmacist's certifications and maintenance of database privileges and access controls to medical records.
- Provides pharmaceutical care to patients as a staff pharmacist.
- Assesses and maintains pharmacy inventory and executes necessary orders, including reviews, to maintain optimal supply and ongoing availability of drugs, identifying and procuring alternative drugs to mitigate risks, when necessary.
- Leads processes for hiring of pharmacy staff, onboarding, and performance management, including leadership of competency evaluations process and documentation.
- Manages internal workflows of acute pharmacy, including optimization of staffing and scheduling to maintain best-in-class and streamlined pharmacy operations.
- Participates in meetings and provides insight to hospital committees to ensure coordination among cross-functional groups.
- Assists in execution of plans for lowering costs, increasing efficiency and driving profitable growth to support strategic business objectives in the acute pharmacy business.
- Assumes responsibility for Quality Assurance monitoring and completing End of the Month reports as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy.
- Bachelor's of Science in Pharmacy required.
- Recent clinical hospital experience preferred. Knowledge of all current state and federal laws pertaining to the practice of pharmacy.
- Ability to positively interact with other pharmacy assistants, clerks, pharmacists, providers, nurses, other health system employees, and medical sales representatives.
- Current license issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Pharmacy
