Summary:
Pharmacists are responsible for filling drug orders, monitoring patient therapies, and providing drug information with compassion and efficiency. Level II pharmacists also manage patient pharmacotherapy and medication quality within their service lines.
CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi-Shoreline is the largest acute care facility in the region, offering comprehensive services in cardiac, cancer, and stroke care. It is the leading emergency facility and the only Level II Trauma Center in the Coastal Bend.

Responsibilities:
Adheres to OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Others, or Leaders.
Operational Duties:
Prepares and dispenses medications per physician orders.
Accurately interprets and verifies drug orders in patient records.
Compounds pharmaceuticals, including sterile and non-sterile products.
Issues controlled substances and maintains required records.
Supervises pharmacy support staff and maintains competency.
Provides ambulatory care services, managing drug therapy and patient education.
Clinical Duties:
Ensures safe, effective drug therapies and monitors for interactions.
Provides drug information and education to patients and staff.
Participates in quality improvement and medication review activities.
Engages in antibiotic and opioid stewardship initiatives.
Contributes to pharmacy advancement through precepting and clinical projects.
Requirements:
A. Education/Skills
- Doctor of Pharmacy or BS Pharmacy degree required.
- One of the following: BPS Board Certification, Residency, Fellowship, or 5 years of hospital experience.
B. Experience
- PGY-1 and PGY-2 residency completion, Board certification, or 5 years of hospital experience required at hire.
C. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
- Pharmacy registration in the State of practice.
- Must obtain pharmacy State licensure within 60 days of start date.
- Pharmacist preceptor within 90 days.
- BLS or ACLS and PALS within 180 days of start date.
- Must achieve ASHP Residency Preceptor status within 180 days of hire.
