Summary:
The Pharmacist Informaticist II demonstrates passion and enthusiasm for pharmacy informatics supporting the Health Informatics Department’s vision and strategic goals of CHRISTUS Health. The Pharmacist Informaticist is responsible for assisting in the operation and administration of clinical information systems using technological solutions, focusing on pharmacy and medication management throughout the continuum of care, collaborating with clinical associates to enhance their workflow methodology and tools. The Pharmacist Informaticist maintains a patient-centric and end-user centric focus, while assisting with analysis, testing, documentation, education, implementation and optimization activities to enhance technology adoption and efficiencies to improve patient safety. This position is exempt.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Health Informatics colleagues to focus on standardized best practice workflow processes and clinical content to ensure alignment across all ministries in order to create efficiencies that improve patient safety
- Participate with knowledge transfer and best practice dissemination across all ministries
- Assess pharmacy related clinical information systems for efficient and effective use related to patient care, user satisfaction, clinical productivity and quality outcomes
- Collaborate with Health Informatics colleagues in the development and/or revision of initiatives or programs related to data collection, retrieval, analysis and interpretation to assist in optimizing patient outcomes and/or effectiveness and efficiency
- Collaborate with Health Informatics colleagues across the Ministries in the review and update of order sets
- Understand and articulate the “connections” and links between and throughout department work related to clinical applications
- Identify and implement improvement opportunities with workflow processes and clinical information systems as it relates to the practice of clinicians and providers
- Provide end-user support to clinicians, using critical thinking and troubleshooting skills
- Demonstrate sound understanding of clinical practice as it pertains to the integration of clinical information systems and impact on end users
- Lead training efforts of clinicians/providers in the use of clinical systems and tools to support patient care
- Identify content for education and competency needs in the use of electronic tools for patient care
- Assure the development of an appropriate education and competency validation plan
- Provide on-going end user clinical system education and support, with all upgrades, new releases, and enhanced functionality
- Perform responsibilities for pharmacy modules or systems as appropriate
- Maintain a working knowledge of appropriate experts in applicable federal, state, local, and private laws and regulations through identification of content experts in pharmacy, quality and compliance for all states in which CHRISTUS Health is present in relation to clinical documentation and electronic medical records
- Communicate to all clinical end users, system changes with new functionality, workflow process changes, downtime procedures and other changes
- Identify opportunities for system enhancement/optimization utilizing identified change management processes
- Responsible for monitoring non-compliance and for escalating through the proper chain of command
- Foster relationships with Ministry Management and other departments such as Pharmacy, Information Management, Quality, Case Management, Revenue Cycle and Finance
- Responsible for other duties as assigned
- Requires minimal instruction on day-to-day work and detailed instructions on new assignments
- Escalates operational problems and technical issues to senior team members and management
- Makes decisions regarding own work on primarily routine cases
- Models/mentors and teaches team members within own function or family
- May mentor and train team members on informatics supported information systems
- Works under minimal supervision, uses independent judgment requiring analysis of variable factors
- Collaborates with senior team members to develop/validate methods, techniques and analytical approaches
- Solves or escalates operational problems and technical issues to senior team members and management; modifies existing tools or processes
Requirements:
- Registered Pharmacist (Rph) or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)
- ASHP accredited residency preferred
- 3 years clinical experience
- 3-5 years’ experience in pharmacy informatics (pharmacy workflow, automation, and pharmacy related clinical applications experience)
- Advance knowledge of Microsoft Office products
- Strong knowledge of clinical information systems, data management and administration
- Knowledge of hospital practices and procedures as well as laws, regulation and guidelines pertaining to practice standards and regulatory requirements with a focus in pharmacy/medication management
- Excellent verbal and written skills, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and as a member of a team
- Current license to practice pharmacy
- Clinical pharmacy informatics certification or 3 - 5 years’ experience in pharmacy informatics
- Valid Driver’s License
- Epic Willow certification/accreditation/self-proficiency preferred (required to certify in the relevant application within first 90 days of hire) Note: Once achieved, must be maintained.
