Classification Title:	Pest Management Technician II
Job Description:	Perform daily functional duties that include (but are not limited to) responding to pest/trouble calls and pages, assessing the situation and creating a plan of action to solve the problem, working with different departments to collect data for specialty projects not controlled by conventional methods. Maintain pesticide inventory, monitor use patterns, and mix restricted use pesticides (as necessary). Oversee Pest Management Technicians I in inspecting and treating University of Florida (UF) buildings and grounds. Perform campus-wide pest control duties at assigned UF facilities in compliance with state and federal law. Report progress and status of current projects to Pest Control Manager. Coordinate termite services. Communicate findings and recommend corrective actions to technicians, building managers, and Physical Plant Division (PPD) employees. Visually inspect and treat food and non-food areas for general household pest (GHP) pest-prone conditions. Perform comprehensive inspections for wood-destroying organisms (WDO) on UF facilities and schedules, and conduct termite pretreatment for new construction and other specialty termite corrective treatments. Remove or relocate animals/vermin that pose a nuisance to UF and its patrons. Assist in on-the-job and classroom training activities for Pest Management employees. Assist Pest Control Manager in special structural fumigation projects. Facilitate repairs and maintenance on specialty pesticide application equipment. Maintain pesticide inventory, monitor use patterns, and mix restricted use pesticides (as necessary). Instruct and train Pest Management Technicians I in mixing and using restricted use pesticides. Operate UF/state vehicle(s) to and from service locations and perform other duties as assigned by the Pest Management Coordinator.
Expected Salary:	Commensurate with education and experience
Minimum Requirements:	High school diploma and two (2) years of appropriate experience. Appropriate vocational/ technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Must meet the requirements of Chapters 482 and 487, Florida Statutes.
Preferred Qualifications:	EDUCATION & TRAINING: Certification as a Certified Pest Control Operator EXPERIENCE: Experience with Microsoft (MS) Office computer program, including MS Word and Access KNOWLEDGE - Knowledge of the biology and identification of Florida’s structural and general household pests - Knowledge of current pest management practices and industry trends SKILLS: Familiar with the maintenance and repair of pesticide application equipment ABILITIES: Ability to communicate effectively PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS - Ability to contact animals - Ability to climb - Ability to reach above shoulder frequently - Ability to lift heavy objects - Ability to kneel - Ability to use pesticides OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: None noted
