Personalized Learning (PL) is one of the top educational priorities for CPS, as the Department of Advanced Learning Specialty Programs is charged with enacting the vision and offering the resources, and structures to support schools adopting this innovative model.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the school Principal, the Personalized Learning Coordinator (PLC) will support the Department of Advanced Learning Specialty Programs in instructional development, change management, and school-level continuous improvement to drive success for all students. This position must be an instructional expert with proven content expertise in personalized learning in at least one core subject (eg, Literacy, Mathematics, Science) and/or with priority student groups (eg, Diverse Learners, English Language Learners). The Personalized Learning Coordinator will plan and take the steps necessary to continually improve and expand personalized learning within the school, thereby enriching the lives of more students in Chicago Public Schools. This is a full-time, exempt position that will be paid for time worked on a salary basis.
The Personalized Learning Coordinator will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:
- Implement a strategic action plan and continuous improvement strategies founded in the CPS Framework for Personalized Learning to positively impact student-based outcomes in their assigned school by working with classroom teachers, school-based Instructional Leadership Teams, school administrators, and professional development providers.
- Build the day-to-day instructional capacity of classroom teachers and school administrators at their assigned school to deliver core district priorities for personalized learning. These priorities currently include (but are not limited to):
- Implementation of Common Core State Standards
- Implementation of a Multi-Tiered System of Supports, K-2 foundational literacy, and College and Career Readiness.
- Provide differentiated instructional support through methods such as:
- Working directly with teachers in the classroom to model effective, research-based instructional practices in personalized learning
- Working collaboratively with grade-level teams to drive data-informed instructional planning,
- Regularly providing professional learning and coaching to staff
- Working with school-based leadership teams to actualize CCSS implementation through personalized learning instructional strategies school-wide.
- Serve on the school-based PL Leadership Team, the Instructional Leadership Team, and the CIWP Team to integrate personalized learning throughout the school and core curriculum.
- Consult and collaborate with Principals, Assistant Principals, and other members of the school-based Instructional Leadership Teams, and District staff as needed to develop data-informed strategies to support the development and implementation of the CIWP. (These strategies include, but are not limited to, curriculum development, professional development plans, direct support to classroom teachers, student outcome progress monitoring, and student intervention plans.)

In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Personalized Learning Coordinator must possess the following qualifications:
Education Required:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or Educational Leadership, required
- Valid teaching certificate issued by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) with appropriate grade level and content endorsement is required. (Candidates with a valid out-of-state, reciprocal license will be considered but must obtain ISBE licensure within 6 months of hire.).
- Principal/Administrative endorsement (or equivalent certificate from outside Illinois), preferred
- Master’s degree preferred
Experience Required:
- Minimum of five (5) years of classroom teaching experience, including the following, is required:
- Experience in implementing personalized learning strategies
- Experience in curriculum mapping, unit planning, and formative progress monitoring
- Two (2) years of experience working with adult learners, including providing coaching, designing, and facilitating professional development to classroom teachers and school leaders, preferred.
- Experience delivering problem/project-based learning, preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of the following:
- Personalized learning and/or competency-based progression
- School-wide personalized learning implementation best practices
- Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)
- Research-based school improvement models and strategies
- Ability to use multiple data sources to set measurable goals and strategically plan to complete the goals
- Ability to define problems, analyze data and develop action plans as part of a continuous improvement cycle
- Excellent collaboration skills
- Excellent communication skills: writing, speaking, and listening
Conditions of Employment
As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to:
- Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency -Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary/part-time positions, however, all CPS employees must be residents of Illinois.
