Job Description
Reports to: Healthy Living Director
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Plan and lead personal training sessions with members ensuring they are performing effective and safe exercises. Help promote the personal training program while making relationship building the number one priority at all times.
PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES :
- Model the YMCA core values
- Designs and implements safe, effective and enjoyable fitness programs that will meet the unique needs and wants of each member.
- Plans and instructs individuals and small groups with a personalized approach following YMCA standards and guidelines.
- Contacts members on a regular basis to follow-up on progression of their fitness program.
- Keeps accurate records of members’ progress.
- Discusses and promotes the personal training program and motivates members to commit to long term participation.
- Be aware of other YMCA programs and promote to members.
- Ensures safe and effective workouts. Responds to, and reports, accidents, incidents, and equipment problems.
- Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
- Maintains current certifications.
- Report any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor or the person responsible for those items at your site.
- Follow all policies and procedures related to keeping members safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to managing visitors and guests at our facilities.
- Report any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor.
- Complete all YMCA trainings as required for position.
- Support the YMCA’s mission and center operations as needed.

- A level of member satisfaction as reflected in member retention, member surveys and other measurement tools
- The highest level of service in our Personal Training program
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent
- Nationally recognized current Personal training certifications (such as NASM, ACSM, ACE, or AFAA)
- Minimum of 1 year experience in a health & fitness center setting
- Current CPR/AED Certification or will get within first month of employment
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Must possess strong communication, customer service and interpersonal skills
- Must possess a running knowledge of general overall health and fitness as well as exercise equipment and its proper use
- Ideally has knowledge and experience in senior fitness, injury rehabilitation, weight management, fitness nutrition, youth fitness, sports conditioning, orthopedic exercise, functional training, or triathlon training
- Must be able to work as an integral member of a staff team.
- Must possess the ability to communicate effectively with adults, youth, seniors and special populations.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
