About the Job

Opportunity Builders, Inc., (OBI) Personal Support Staff are responsible for providing direct care/support and advocacy for adults diagnosed with intellectual and physical disabilities. This position ensures the participants assigned to them receive the highest quality of care and support through the person-centered planning (PCP) process. This includes assisting in the proactive steps to work towards achieving goals outlined in the (PCP). Interested candidates would need to be active and enjoy going out into the community, can assist the individuals with life skills to include but not limited to personal hygiene, housekeeping and meal preparation. This position may require providing direct care/support within the participants home or within the community. This is a Part-Time position between 4-30 hours a week. The days and hours vary based on the individual's scheduled services. This is a perfect opportunity for flexible part-time employment.

Below are personal requests from the individuals served by OBI and reside in Glen Burnie, Brooklyn Park, Highland or Pasadena.

D-20 hrs.

Lives in Crofton Md. Looking for someone to assist him with identifying the right therapist for him, he attends college courses and would like assistance planning his schedule, scheduling and attending medical appts, He is also trying to explore career options. He would like to start off with 2 days (Mon and Wed) 4hrs each from 12p-4 or 1p-5p.

PS- 40 hrs.

Looking for someone that is energetic, able to move quickly, enjoys exercising, etc.. Want s to take walks in the neighborhood, jump on the trampoline, Needs reminders to use the bathroom every 2 hrs (requires assistance using the bathroom). Does not do well in crowds, does not like loud noises does not like the hand dryers in the bathroom, will take food from others.

PM- 30 hrs.

Looking for someone to start off with him working around the home then eventually gravitate to the community, shopping etc.. He is very attached to his mother since the passing of his Dad.- Pat is doing 10 hrs.

JG- 10 hrs.

Enhanced due to BP Sat and Sun. Looking for someone to take to out to exercise on Saturdays & Sundays

MF- 18 hrs.

Looking for someone to assist with ordering refills, managing money and receipts, exercising, teaching him independent living skills etc...

KM- 20 hrs.

Looking to play basketball, go to parks, mall, movies, etc..

MG- 20 hrs.

Looking to learning healthier eating habits and exercising.

RR- 15 hrs.

Looking to learn engagement skills, independent living skills, go on community activities.

DG- 12 hrs.

Looking to go to the mall, movies, parks, to play basketball, various outings etc...

SB.- 40 hrs.

Looking to go to the library, work on reading skills, go to the mall, movies etc...

DK - 10 hrs.

Looking to get assistance with learning how to set up emails... sending and receiving.

Looking for an active person to work with him daily from 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm. RB would like this person to help him enjoy his community, play basketball and go bowling.

Looking for someone to work with him Saturdays & Sundays (12:00pm– 5:00 pm). MC would like someone who enjoys sports, playing games and going out to experience his community.

Looking for someone (female preferred - is okay with a male) on Monday for 5 hours after 12:00 pm. KS would like this person to assist her with her classwork from Anne Arundel Community College.

Looking for an active person to attend outings in the community. He is employed and wants someone to work with him on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30pm – 7pm.

Looking for a staff member to assist with his Socialization. MB likes to meet new people and go on outings such as going to the pool, movies and playing basketball. The days preferred are Tuesdays & Thursday for 8 hours.

Looking for an active person that is available Monday through Friday for 6 hours a day. AB likes bowling, going to parks and exercising.

Qualifications

High School diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
Valid Driver’s license, clean driving record and 1 years driving experience.
Ability to perform and meet job and physical requirements.
Basic computer knowledge.
Prefer 1 year experience working with people with intellectual and physical disabilities (may include volunteer or personal experience from having a family member with a disability)
Able to perform duties with autonomy.
