Position Overview:
Reporting to the Underwriting Manager, the Underwriter plays a pivotal role in evaluating insurance applications and determining the acceptability of risks. This position requires a blend of sound judgment and meticulous attention to detail. The primary focus will be on Property and Casualty for both Personal and Commercial Lines, ensuring that accurate quotes are generated, striking a balance between competitiveness for the customer and profitability for the company.
Key Responsibilities:
- Reviewing insurance applications and related documentation to assess the risk level in alignment with company guidelines.
- Recommending suitable premiums and coverage after thorough analysis of applicant documentation, business factors, and market competitiveness.
- Cultivating professional and collaborative relationships with agents, responding promptly and ethically to all inquiries and concerns.
- Providing comprehensive education to agents regarding the company's risk selection philosophy and pricing guidelines.
- Conducting field visits to agent offices to foster relationships and attract new business applications.
- Ensuring adherence to underwriting strategies and regulatory compliance standards.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree with a focus on Business or Risk Management preferred.
- Experience in excess and surplus lines.
- High school Diploma or Equivalent.
- Minimum of one year of insurance underwriting experience; relevant education may be considered in lieu of required experience.
- Familiarity with Windows PC, Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel is essential.
- Preferred certifications: CPCU, CIC, AINS, CRM, or other relevant insurance designations.
