Role Overview: As a Financial Services Representative III (Personal Banker) at Suffolk Credit Union, your primary responsibility is to deliver exceptional member experiences to both current and prospective members. This role focuses on building and enhancing relationships through acquisition, retention, and cross-selling strategies within the retail banking environment.
In addition to identifying referral opportunities for services such as consumer lending, commercial lending, mortgage lending, and wealth management, this position includes a supervisory component. You will work closely with the Assistant Branch Manager to oversee daily branch operations, ensuring smooth workflows and operational efficiency.
Financial Services Representatives are expected to collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve departmental and Credit Union goals while maintaining high accuracy and reliability. Success in this role requires a customer-centric approach and the ability to balance service, sales, and compliance priorities effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide exceptional member experiences to both current and prospective Suffolk Credit Union members.
- Build and maintain relationships through acquisition, retention, and cross-selling opportunities within retail banking.
- Identify and refer opportunities for lending, wealth management, and other services to meet members' financial needs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve departmental and Credit Union goals.
- Ensure accuracy, efficiency, and confidentiality in all transactions and tasks.
- Proactively engage with members through research and outreach for sales and service opportunities.
- Perform daily Personal Banker responsibilities, including account maintenance, lending processes, and cash handling.
- Balance member service, sales objectives, and compliance with Credit Union policies and state/federal regulations.
- Support the Credit Union's growth through community involvement, business development efforts, and branch activities.
- Achieve monthly loan goals ethically, ensuring compliance with all regulations while contributing to overall branch success.
Essential Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or equivalency certification. At a minimum, 3 years of customer service, preferably in a banking environment. Cash handling preferred, supervisory experience required. Notary license required to be obtained within three (3) months of hire. NMLS-ID (Mortgage Loan Originator) required and will be provided at time of hire if not already acquired. Bilingual preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to empathize and build rapport.
- Clear and articulate communication, both orally and in writing.
- Proficient in customer service and handling confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to work effectively with direct supervision and support branch goals.
- Intermediate mathematical skills with knowledge of loan processing procedures.
- Familiarity with credit union products, services, policies, and regulations.
- Understanding of relevant laws and regulations, including Truth in Lending, HMDA, ECOA, and others.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to communicate effectively through speaking and hearing, with visual acuity for reporting and presenting information.
- Occasionally required to lift over 45 lbs., such as supply boxes.
- Occasionally works unusual hours, including Credit Union Days and call nights.
- Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including Saturdays.
- Occasionally required to travel up to 50 miles for business needs.
