JOB DESCRIPTION
As a permit coordinator, you will be responsible for assisting the permit manager throughout the entire permitting process for all projects in our pipeline. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in the various regulations and standards related to marine construction, will be knowledgeable on and have experience with all areas of the permitting process, including local, state, and federal regulations; be able to effectively communicate with relevant stakeholders; maintain positive working relationships; have a strong work ethic, desire to grow, and ability to thrive in a complex and fast-paced environment.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist the permitting process end-to-end, including: scheduling inspections, reviewing, issuing, and ensuring all approvals, permits, licenses, and zoning applications are complete and accurate, in accordance with required local, state, and federal regulations.
- Proactively identifying/reducing/preventing procedural delays, working with general and project managers to enforce permit conditions, safety, and environmental standards
- Coordinate and maintain positive working relationships with other permitting staff, contractors, developers, architects, engineers, subcontractors, inspectors, state and local governments, and other professionals throughout the process
- Respond to customer inquiries and educate them on permit requirements, inspection, process, and set realistic expectations based on state and local permitting timelines
- Monitor status of all permit applications and work with the permit expediter as necessary to facilitate progress and timeliness needs outside the office
- Work with general and project managers to monitor progress and conduct inspections to ensure completion of work according to permit conditions
- Maintain accurate and complete records, prepare reporting and provide regular and ad hoc updates on all permit activity
- Maintain an up-to-date, comprehensive working knowledge of permit regulations and zoning laws and advise management on potential impacts as requirements change
- Drive accountability, timing, and efficiency in the permitting process
- Perform administrative and other duties as directed
Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS
•High school diploma or equivalent
•Proven experience in administrative support or customer service
•Previous experience working with permits or in a construction office
•Ability to interpret and apply laws and regulations
•Strong time-management skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
•Strong communication skills, interpersonal skills, and follow-through
•Ability to maintain brisk work pace & timeliness of project completion
•Excellent written and oral communication skills
•Excellent research skills, attention to detail, organization and problem-solving skills
•Proficient in Microsoft Office, with aptitude to learn new software and systems
•Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and quickly adapt to change.
•Ability to pass examination to comply with our drug-free workplace policy
•Ability to pass a background check
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
•Associate's degree or higher
•Familiarity with GIS mapping software
•Strongly preferred: Bilingual (English/Spanish)
In-depth knowledge of permitting process, preferably in marine construction
