Per Diem-Supervisor, Point of Care Laboratory - Brooklyn Hospital Center

Responsible for coordinating and supervising the performance of the technical staff in the assigned Unit. Ensures patient samples are properly prepared for review and diagnostic evaluation by the Pathologists. Ensures that the Section runs smoothly, ensures turnaround time meets or exceeds established guidelines, and that all quality and safety requirements are met at all times. Screens Cytopathology (preparation of samples, screening and reviewing slides consistent with department’s quality and productivity).




* Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Medical Technology healthcare related field or equivalent education
* Minimum of six (6) years in a clinical laboratory in a hospital setting, with at least 2 years of supervisory experience
* Some histology experience - Preferred
* New York State Licensed Cytotechnologist
* MT (ASCP), MLS (ASCP), or MLT (ASCP) – Preferred

* Knowledge of laboratory information system – Preferably Sunquest
* Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain rapport to all levels of staff throughout the Hospital and persons external to the Hospital.
* Ability to formulate and execute plans for staff development.
* Able to read, write, and speak English fluently
* Ability to read computer screens, procedure manuals and other documents
* Ability to hear doorbells, alarms, telephone, and other mechanical devices
* Ability to pass a test for color blindness
