About the Job
Under direction of a Clinical Coordinator, the Definitive Observation Unit (DOU) Per Diem Registered Nurse will be scheduled as needed, to provide direct or indirect nursing care to hospital patients in a general or specialized nursing unit; and to perform related work as required.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
The Per Diem Nurse is distinguished from the Registered Nurse classification in that Per Diem Nurses are scheduled to work on an as-needed basis (intermittent) to supplement staffing needs. Nursing practice at this level demonstrates the application of intermediate assessment skills; independent judgment and action; and adherence to patient privacy, confidentiality, and security guidelines. Incumbents are expected to work at the full scope of their licensure providing clinical care with a decreasing amount of supervision commensurate with their experience.
BILINGUAL INCENTIVE: Some positions may be eligible for bilingual incentive depending on the applicable memorandum of agreement and the needs of the department. In order to qualify for this incentive, incumbents in eligible positions must take and pass the applicable bilingual fluency examination.
EDUCATIONAL INCENTIVE: Some positions may be eligible for educational incentive pay in addition to the adjusted base rate of pay in the noted amounts for educational attainments which are not specifically required for the classification:
Per Diem Registered Nurse III is represented by the California Nurses Association (CNA) and is eligible for overtime compensation.
The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future Regular (including Temporary and Fixed-term), Intermittent, and Extra Help vacancies. There are currently three (3) Per Diem vacanciesat the Ventura County Medical Center - Definitive Observation Unit (DOU).

- Bachelor's Degree $1.25/hr
- Graduate's Degree $1.75/hr
