We provide innovative and compassionate services to individuals struggling with substance use and co-occurring disorders. We are looking for dedicated, caring and compassionate people to work in our Residential/Outpatient Treatment Facilities and Community Programs.
Peer Recovery Specialist
Hours: Monday- Friday (rotating weekends)
Location: Paterson, NJ
Job Summary:
Certified Peer Recovery Specialists give non-clinical assistance to help fellow peers in their recovery from alcohol and drug use related problems through Advocacy, Mentoring and Education, Recovery and Wellness Support, using the established ethical principles and training. They may be in their own recovery, been an affected family member, friend or others using their own experiences in combating drug and alcohol problems. Peers are defined as any anyone requesting help for a drug and alcohol problem. The PRS functions as an integral part of the parent’s/families’ recovery process while in treatment and post discharge. The PRS is aligned with the 10 Guiding principles of recovery.
Position Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- The Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS) PRS works to build a community of both clients and staff that is supportive and conducive to parent’s growth and recovery. Assist in building supportive relationships with parents and guardians of children receiving services from the Department of Children and Families (DCF.)
- The PRS assist in the creation and implementation of social activities and help create a positive environment for client and child/ren.
- When applicable, assist client in accessing Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT)
- Participate in all special events and training geared towards clients, families and caregivers. Provide direct advocacy for clients by accompanying them to meetings, school IEP meetings, hearings and team meetings among other when requested by the client
- Encourage and promote client leadership when opportunities are available in the community.
- Assist client in developing skills of self-advocacy and building a recovery support system.
- PRS links up with various community organizations and resources to provide additional support for parents/families, particularly as they transition from recovery back into less intensive services and/or the general community.
- PRS advocates, mentors, educates, supports recovery and wellness, and foremost, displays ethical responsibility when providing services to clients/families.
- Encourage client/families’ attendance and participation in AA/NA/GA.
- When applicable, assist client/family in educating about Relapse Prevention process
- Responsible for documenting Psycho-educational sessions and/or other documentation when applicable
- When applicable, transporting clients to and from activities
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent. One (1) year of related experience is required. Must be an active Certified Peer Recovery Specialist in the state of NJ or be within 6 months of Licensure. Must have car and a NJ driver's license with good driving history Detail-oriented, flexible with ability to work independently. Must be computer literate and possess ability to type.
