Job Summary |
The Medical Assistant assists the provider in routine patient care in the office setting. Working in concert with the physician/mid-level practitioner, this individual fosters a smooth and efficient patient flow. Works cohesively between Health Care Network of Southwest Florida and site collaborative partners. Duties are performed under the supervision of a Lead RN or Lead LPN. |
Responsibilities and Standards |
o Obtains accurate vital signs from the patient and reports abnormal findings verbally to nurse or provider. o Accurately enters documentation into E.H.R. (Chief Complaint and Vital Signs) o Accurately obtains health history and rectifies medication. o Serves as translator between the patient and healthcare provider when needed. o Accurately processes electronic lab and diagnostic orders. o Fills in logbooks and special forms (pertinent to department) o Administers medications by oral, Intramuscular, subcutaneous, intradermal routes. o Performs phlebotomy. o Performs department specific procedures. o Calls in prescriptions. · Performs waived testing as ordered by the provider. o Follows policies and procedures. o Logs results per policies and procedures. · Keeps exam rooms and treatment areas clean per infection control policies and procedures, and well stocked. · Accurately utilizes medical equipment as trained. · Reprocesses medical equipment according to establish policies and procedures. · Assists with monthly reports, i.e., hand hygiene, infection control, equipment checklist. · Maintains use of universal precautions at all times. · Performs other related duties as indicated or when requested by supervisor. · Assists in referral process within integrated care model and outside specialty providers. · Assists patients in pharmaceutical assistance programs as needed. · Orders and maintains inventory of medications. o Maintains the sample log and pharmaceutical log o Checks for expiration dates and disposes of expired medications correctly and in a timely manner. · Preloads patient's medical information into the Electronic Health Records |

Experience |
· Education/Training Level: o High School diploma or GED equivalent o Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program · Licenses and Certifications: o Certification or Registration as Medical Assistant · Communication Skills: o Bilingual skills preferred. o Demonstrates good oral and written communication skills. · Technology Skills: o Effectively uses Electronic Health Records o Proficient on computers |
