About The Position
Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: PCU/Med Surg/Oncology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Willingness to work with a team Description: This unit deals with a mixed patient population, primarily focusing on oncology and trauma. There are 28 beds on this floor, and the nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4 in PCU and 1:5 in Med/Surg. Nurses may be required to titrate drips like insulin and cardizem occasionally. It is required for all nurses to have ACLS and BLS certifications. While chemotherapy certification is not mandatory, it is preferred. Nurses will receive a two-day orientation, and there is an exam thereafter; passing is necessary to continue on the job. Nurses should bring a genuine need to care for patients, and the ability to work in diverse environments. Teamwork is a key component for success on this unit. Travelers with PCU experience are welcome, and no specific oncology experience is required, though helpful. The staff includes support from nursing assistants, an RN case manager, social work, educators, and dieticians. Nurses are encouraged to engage in hourly rounding to enhance patient experience. Additional competencies such as experience with ventilators and hemodynamic monitoring are beneficial. The unit uses the EPIC charting system and Alaris IV pumps. The dress code requires navy blue scrubs, and the weekend work requirement is every third weekend.
