Intern Job Summary:
The Woods Schools are comprised of two different education programs, which operate out of our Gardner Education, and Crestwood Education Centers located in Langhorne, PA. Both schools have the need for classroom support staff who we refer to as Personal Care Assistants (Summer). The scheduled hours are 8:00am to 2:30pm Monday thru Friday. We also have evening and weekend hours available if you are interested in working in some of our residences as a direct care professional for extra hours. All staff must complete a week long paid orientation, which is scheduled to start on May 5, 2025 or May 19, 2025. Orientation will be completed utilizing both an on-line and in-person component.
Salary: $16 / hr
Responsibilities:- Assists in conducting behavioral assessments to determine a student’s current level of functioning.
- Assists in implementing approved behavioral goals, objectives and related lesson plans for the 1:1 student.
- Collect data for student positive behavior support plans.
- Assists in responding to behavioral emergencies and in implementing approved behavior programs.
- Implement school-wide positive behavior supports throughout the day by building relationships, listening, praising effectively, and assisting student in daily activities.
- Assist in conducting scheduled activities within day program including but not limited to art, music, health and physical education classes.
- Assists 1:1 student in all aspects of self-care.
- Maintains assigned level of supervision, and escorts and monitors 1:1 student throughout the school day.
- Attends scheduled team and staff meetings as requested.
- Provides residential support for students during school recess or inclement weather needs.
- Attends scheduled in-serviced days and training courses as required by education program.
- Adheres to all applicable Woods policies and procedures.
- Uses Microsoft Teams to receive important updates about Education and Woods-wide events.
- Uses care logic to document incidents in school and in the residence.
- Collaborates and follows feedback and rules related to work setting (e.g., residence and school).
- Assists with the instruction of daily living skills in the student’s home or school as scheduled.
- Demonstrates a good understanding of instructional techniques to promote student independence (e.g., prompt hierarchies).
- Uses escalation methods to support student problem behavior (e.g., Ukeru).
- Participates in school-based orientation, training and meetings as requested.
- Maintains effective working relationships with peers and management staff.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Proof of a High School Diploma required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Experience with people who are developmentally disabled, socially/emotionally disabled, and or have challenging behaviors required.
- Demonstrated ability in written and oral communication in the English language as well as adequate computer skills for report writing.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, be agile, physically pursue clients on foot, physically restrain, bend, squat, stretch, reach, push up and stand for several hours at a time.
