Starting Salary: $55,000
Process payroll from input of hours through the balance of accounts against the general ledger. Prepares payroll related reports.
Essential Job Functions:

- Input of timesheets for employees; prepares bi-weekly payroll.
- Calculates gross pay.
- Prints payroll checks.
- Sends direct deposits to clearing house.
- Prepares payroll reports.
- Pays bi-weekly and monthly bills (child support, garnishments, etc.).
- Pays taxes, bonds, credit union, pension, insurance.
- Create and maintain accounting codes within PeopleSoft HCM.
- Reconciles payroll liability accounts.
- Reviews and approves payroll data for accuracy and completeness.
- Balances payroll accounts with the General Ledger.
- Updates payroll master fields to reflect changes in pay and tax rates.
- Ensures compliance with Agency policies, bargaining unit contract, tax laws, and statutory requirements as they relate to payroll processing.
- Manage records created and received in compliance with the Hampton Roads Transit Records Management Policy and Procedures.
- Responsible for coordinating the records management effort within the department.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Abilities and Skills essential to Job Functions:
Considerable knowledge of payroll methods and techniques. Knowledge of basic accounting principles and concepts. Knowledge of computer software applications. Ability to maintain accurate payroll records. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
Records Coordinator:
Serve as the Departmental Records Coordinator with responsibility for organizing and maintaining departmental files in accordance with HRT’s “Records Management Policy and Procedures”; preparing documents for imaging by designating file code information and forwarding to Records Management; maintaining (archiving/storage) and disposing of records in accordance with the approved HRT Records Retention and Disposition Schedules; attending regular information and training meetings; and providing information to the department Vice President and all department members on records management including paper, electronic records, photos, news articles, and other items.
Required Software Knowledge and Skills essential to Job Functions:
Proficiency in using computer systems and the listed software applications associated with performance of assigned work is essential. Basic problem solving skills associated with software applications used is expected. Software usage relevant to job duties will be evaluated.

Email, Internet, PeopleSoft HCM, PeopleSoft Finance, Excel, Word, PS Bonds Program, VRS 3.0, Online Banking

Training and/or Education:
Associate’s degree in accounting, business administration, or related field.
Required Experience:
Two years of experience in payroll, accounting or closely related work.
Licenses or Certificates:
Possess a valid Driver's License. Acquire a Virginia Driver's License within 60 days after the date of hire (in instances when an out of state license is not the applicant's current state of residence).
