Payroll Tax Specialist – New York, NY
We are seeking candidates for a Payroll Tax Specialist position with a highly successful consumer services organization with multiple locations throughout the United States. The organization manages payroll for about 1,000 employees across multiple states and has recently implemented Paycor as its new payroll system. This position will play a key role in supporting projects that ensure accurate payroll registration and compliance with payroll tax regulations in various states. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of relevant payroll experience, a deep understanding of payroll tax compliance, and substantial experience working with Paycor. Qualified candidates who are 100% REMOTE will be considered.
This is a 1–2-month contract that will pay $40-55/hr (depending on experience) within a 40-hour work week.

Responsibilities:
- Review inbound mailings related to state tax notices and approvals
- Partner with Chief People Officer and Payroll Manager to determine and execute proper responses for tax notices
- Review details maintained in payroll system, Paycor, and assist in filing necessary documents and information with state office of notice
- Follow-up directly with state offices as necessary
- Retrieve essential login information for multiple states’ websites, and ensure internal payroll team has access to states’ websites to maintain continuous monitoring
- Provide feedback and recommendations regarding process improvement
- 5+ years of related payroll and payroll tax compliance experience
- Strong understanding of payroll tax compliance across multiple states
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PPT, Excel)
- Previous experience utilizing Paycor
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and time management skills
