Payroll Specialist (Part-Time)
We are currently seeking candidates for a Payroll Specialist (part-time) position with a highly successful organization located in California. The Payroll Specialist will partner with the internal payroll team to administer and process weekly payroll, and will oversee all prevailing wage payroll processes for employees in California. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3-5+ years of related payroll experience that includes strong prevailing wage payroll experience specific to California.
This is a part-time position that will average 10-15 hours/week. This role offers 100% remote flexibility for qualified candidates.
This is a 12-month contract position, paying between $35-45/hour (depending on experience).

Responsibilities:
- Administer and process payroll on a weekly basis for 200-400+ employees
- Ensure that all employee data and payroll records are accurate, secure, and confidential
- Ensure accurate deductions for taxes, benefits, retirement plans, garnishments, etc.
- Reconcile payroll data and generate accurate payroll reports
- Maintain accurate payroll records for auditing and reporting purposes
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll-related matters and resolve discrepancies
- Process and manage prevailing wage payroll for employees working on public works projects
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local prevailing wage regulations, including proper classification of workers and rates
- Collect and verify certified payroll reports to ensure they meet all requirements
- Submit timely prevailing wage reports to government agencies as required
- Stay current on changes to prevailing wage laws and incorporate necessary adjustments into payroll
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, including the California Labor Code and Wage Orders
- Assist in other payroll-related projects or audits as required
- Minimum of 3-5+ years of payroll experience that includes working with prevailing wage payroll
- Experience managing payroll for multiple entities
- In-depth knowledge of California payroll laws, including prevailing wage requirements
- Familiarity with payroll software (e.g., Paycor, ADP, Paychex, or other payroll management systems)
- Previous experience with Paycor a plus, but not required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with employees at all level
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or similar payroll certification (a plus)
