Payroll Specialist - Long-Term Contract Position. Immedidate Need!
Are you an experienced payroll professional looking for a challenging and rewarding role? We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to manage in-house payroll process using an ERP system. This position involves advanced, professional duties in payroll preparation, maintenance, reconciliation, and administration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Bi-Weekly Payroll Processing: Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing in compliance with federal, state, and District regulations.
- Complex Computations: Handle payroll taxes, retro payments, LOA payments, terminations, voluntary deductions, and adjustments.
- Report and Record Maintenance: Prepare and maintain accurate payroll reports and records, analyzing and reconciling payroll data for each pay period.
- Compliance and Legal Updates: Stay updated on and implement changes required to maintain compliance with State and Federal Laws, as well as accepted payroll practices and procedures.
- Payroll Automation: Identify opportunities for payroll automation, participate in testing and validating Payroll System updates.
- Employee and Department Inquiries: Address and research payroll-related questions from employees, departments, and external agencies.
- Payroll Reporting: Prepare and present payroll reports to internal and external stakeholders.
- Policy Interpretation: Explain payroll processing rules, regulations, and policies to staff to ensure compliance.
- Accounting Duties: Perform complex accounting tasks involved in payroll processing.
- Audit Support: Provide documentation and information for payroll-related audit requests.
- General Ledger Reconciliation: Reconcile CalPERS reports and payroll general ledger accounts.
- Compensation Coding: Assign codes for special compensation forms and deductions.
- Wage Orders Implementation: Implement wage orders and notify affected employees accordingly.
- Policy Compliance: Ensure payroll processing complies with MOUs, Personnel Policies, and Salary Resolutions.
- State and Federal Filings: Prepare and submit payroll-related filings.
- Team Training: Provide training to payroll team members.
- Safety Compliance: Follow District safety practices and attend safety training sessions.
- Special Projects: Perform special projects and other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma plus some college coursework in bookkeeping or accounting. An Associate's degree in Accounting is highly desirable.
- Experience: Minimum of three years of in-house payroll processing experience, preferably in a municipal government setting. Experience with ERP systems is a plus.
- Skills: Strong understanding of payroll systems and processes, attention to detail, ability to handle complex computations, excellent communication skills, and proficiency in payroll software and ERP systems.

The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
