Ensures accurate processing and recording of the company's payroll by providing timely and accurate financial information and participating in daily payroll functions. Job Responsibilities
- Executes time and attendance processing and interface with payroll.
- Assists in payroll system upgrade testing and reports results to area Project Manager.
- Maintains all balancing records necessary for annual external agency audit.
- Assists in gathering documentation needed by internal and external auditors.
- Stays current with all HR policies specific to employee payments.
- Assists in keeping current the standard operational procedures for all applicable responsibilities of the payroll department.
- Manages workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely.
- Reconciles payroll prior to transmission and validate confirmed reports.
- Monitors payroll specific GL accounts researching and resolving out of balance issues.
- Prepares Journal entries as needed.
- Serves as mentor to Payroll Specialist I.
- Performs all activities necessary to process one or more in house payrolls, including maintaining records, filing of reports and voluntary deduction reports, processing involuntary deductions such as levies, garnishments and child support.
- Assists management and executive leaders in gathering payroll data.
- Assists department managers and supervisors with timecard maintenance and problem resolution.
- Understands proper taxation of employer benefits and cafeteria plan withholdings.
- Understands federal, state and local withholding computation(s) along with bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual filing of reports and payments (including electronic payments) and W-2's.
- Deals sensitively with confidential material.
- Associate's degree or higher in related field required upon hire
- A combination of education, training and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- A minimum of 2 years' relevant experience required
- No licensure/certification/registration required
- Requires critical thinking skills and decisive judgment.
- Works under minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
- Working knowledge of payroll best practices and federal, state and local regulations for profit and non-profit entity.
