Job Summary:
The Payroll Benefits Specialist carries out responsibilitiesin the following areas: Weekly Multi State Payroll, FMLA leaves a& Benefits.
Responsibilities:
The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for processing weekly payroll and maintaining employee time records. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Enters, maintains, and/or processes information in the payroll system; information may include employee's hourly rates, salaries, commissions, bonuses or other compensation, time worked, paid leave and holidays, deductions and withholding, address changes, and other information.
- Ensures proper processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, garnishments, and other deductions.
- Contact location managers for required timecard corrections.
- Reconciles payroll to the general ledger and monthly bank statements.
- Issues, or reissues, physical or replacement checks or direct deposits due to payroll errors or final discharge.
- Ensure payroll vendor records and processes federal and state payroll tax deposits.
- Reconcile monthly benefit statements to the employee deductions.
- Prepare weekly payroll/sales report.
- Understand company processes related to Human Resources Department.
- Observe all safety guidelines set forth by NPW.
- Work area is kept clean and organized.
- Proficient and up to date on wage and hour laws by state.
- Follow directions and communicate job issues to the supervisor.
- Works as scheduled and maintain attendance occurrences at an acceptable level.
- Process a weekly multi state payroll.
- Process monthly/quarterly commissions and bonuses.
- Monthly benefit reconciliation.
- Responsible for the administration of the FMLA process (new requests/ required certifications, communicate with management & employee, monitor RTW notices). Maintain FMLA log/spreadsheet updated.
- Prepare FMLA correspondence as requested.
- Responsible for processing garnishments in HRIS.
- Complete & respond to written reference checks and verification of employment.

Educational & Skills Requirement:
- Min 2 years' experience in payroll processing.
- Min 2 years' experience in benefit reconciliation.
- Discretion, professionalism, personal ownership and attention to detail required.
- Ability to work under pressure with competing priorities and strict deadlines.
- Proficient in a Windows Software Environment.
- Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll software.
- Must have excellent oral, verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Bilingual (Spanish and English) preferred.
Proficiency in Excel. Must be able to work with various formulas.
Physical Requirements:
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to twenty (20) pounds unassisted.
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, use hands and reach with arms, talk, and hear.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
