Salary/Hourly Rate:
$25-$35 per hour
Position Overview:
Our client, a leading company based in Bronx NY, is seeking a Payroll Specialist to join their growing team on a full-time, onsite basis. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with a strong background in payroll processing, who is ready to assist with end-to-end payroll functions. The Payroll Specialist will play a key role in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing for employees across multiple departments. This position requires hands-on involvement in all payroll-related tasks, with an emphasis on compliance and efficiency.
Responsibilities of the Payroll Specialist:
- Process weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly payroll for all employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Verify timesheets, hours worked, and employee deductions to ensure payroll compliance.
- Maintain and update payroll records, including new hires, terminations, and changes to employee information.
- Ensure proper tax calculations and deductions in accordance with federal, state, and local laws.
- Process benefits, garnishments, and other deductions accurately.
- Assist with the preparation and filing of payroll tax reports, including W-2 and 1099 forms.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, deductions, and pay discrepancies.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to data protection policies regarding employee payroll information.
- Collaborate with the HR and finance teams to resolve payroll issues and improve payroll processes.
- Stay updated on payroll laws, regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance.
- Assist with payroll audits and month-end/year-end procedures.
- Provide payroll-related reports to management as requested.
Qualifications for the Payroll Specialist:
- Minimum of 3 years of payroll processing experience, preferably in a fast-paced environment.
- In-depth knowledge of payroll practices, tax regulations, and labor laws.
- Proficient in payroll software and systems (experience with ADP or similar systems is a plus).
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume environment and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with employees and management.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism. Team player with a positive, proactive attitude.
- Ability to adapt to changing payroll processes and new technology.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field (preferred).
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification is a plus but not required.
