The Payroll Accountant supports the company’s mission of providing quality affordable homes and quality jobs by managing the preparation, administration, and accounting of the company’s payroll. The individual leads all facets of payroll management, including bi-weekly processing, accounting, benefits management, and reporting.
This individual must be highly collaborative across departments and divisions, responsive to feedback and employee needs, and highly detail oriented. They should possess a thorough understanding of accounting principles, an ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and experience with and knowledge of applicable pay-related federal and state laws.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION
Bi-Weekly Payroll Processing:
- Oversees the complete and accurate recording of all employee time records by reviewing, correcting, and where appropriate, conducting training.
- Adjusts allocations of benefits and other charges for employees working across multiple properties.
- Incorporates necessary charges and bonuses for employees.
- Supports calculation and completes processing of quarterly, semi-annual, and annual bonuses.
- Receives and processes required garnishments.
- Oversees the confidential management and maintenance of employee payroll records.
- Codes expenses appropriately across properties and accounts
- Reviews payroll reports and collaborates with Controller and Accounting Manager on uploads into company accounting system (Yardi)
- Processes benefit selections deductions through external carriers
- Reviews and processes monthly invoices from benefit providers for accuracy
- Posts benefit bills to Yardi
- Processes 401k Deductions, Loan, and Deferral Feedback bi-monthly
- Reviews new hire benefit selections and garnishments
- Removes terminated employees from appropriate benefits systems
Policy and Reporting:
- Uses, and stays current on, applicable federal, state, and local laws, as well as company policies and procedures in establishing and monitoring payroll processing.
- Designs and recommends appropriate changes to policies to increase adherence to laws and improvements to procedures.
- Supervises the administration of tax liability and requirements.
- Acts as the contact for any internal or external audit of payroll records, systems, and procedures.
- Prepares regular reports of compensation and benefits for internal use and external surveys.

- the individual’s skill sets, experience and training;
- licensure and certification requirements;
- office location and other geographic considerations;

With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range referenced above reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
