As a Patient Care Technician,you will play a critical role in continuing the healing mission of Deaconess.
Job Overview:
Under the supervision of the RN, the Patient Care Technician (PCT) performs various care activities and related services necessary in caring for the personal needs, comfort and safety of a specific patient population (ANA Standards of Delegation, 2004). The employee must be able to successfully complete job specific orientation, competencies, and meet/exceed standards as identified in the criteria based performance appraisal.PCTs must demonstrate awareness of patients' rights in all aspects of patient care and reportissues to the appropriate person. The PCT demonstrates leadership through coordination of unit equipment and activities. Communicates to the RN pertinent findings or observations noted while providing patient care and comfort.Assist professional staff with basic life support principles.
Unit Description:
TheStepdownunit is a 19 bed unit specializing in the care of the ICU Stepdown patient. This unit cares for complex medical surgical patients, cardiac patients, stroke patients, sepsis and other diagnoses including patients requiring closer monitoring. Our patient population offers a great variety of learning opportunities related to cardiac rhythms and EKG’s, medication drips requiring titration, bedside cardioversions, and NIH stroke scale. We welcome new and experienced staff and enjoy teaching. We promote a healthy work environment and have an active unit based shared governance. Teamwork is a priority on our busy unit as we strive to provide safe and high quality care to our patients.
Required: Certifications/Licenses/Education:
- Basic Life Support: Health Care Provider, within six months of hire.
- Completion of a high school education or equivalent (GED) preferred
- Successfully complete PCT classes as required by care center/unit.
