About the Job
All shifts may be available: Full-Time, Part-Time, Day Shift and Night Shift. The Critical Care Division utilizes 12 hour shifts.
- The Patient Care Assistant is responsible for providing nursing care to patients under the supervision and direction of a registered nurse.
- All Patient care assistant duties are subject, but not limited to:
- Assisted Daily Livings within a hospital setting (bathing, changing, toileting, dressing, etc..)
- Light Housekeeping in the patient rooms, as well as maintaining cleanliness in the utility rooms, linen and storage closets, and hallways.
- Clinical patient care that does not require a nursing license to perform
- Assisting with call lights, phone operations, and orienting patient families/visitors, and maintaining properly stocked patient care areas.
- Maintaining correct electronic medical records, and properly documenting all patient care interactions.
- Reviews and discusses patient care plans, as well as ongoing patient care activities with the assigned Registered Nurse.
- Maintains efficient patient flow by being aware of room availability and patient intakes/discharges.
- Cleans patient rooms after patient discharge with the assistance of the nursing staff, and properly disposes of all items used during a patient stay in the proper containers. Reusable items must be correctly processed for sterilization and reuse.
- Must demonstrate knowledge and execution of correct patient safety practices.
- Demonstrates responsible, professional behavior in all aspects of the job, while working in a team setting.

N4S - Medical ICU

Experience working with a variety of different, complex patient populations including Multi-System Organ Dysfunction, Cardiac Arrest, including Therapeutic Temperature Management, Critical Condition(s) with Underlying Psychiatric Component, Respiratory Failure, Hepato-Renal Disease, Acute Kidney Failure requiring Renal Replacement Therapy, CVA w/ post-thrombolytic therapy and/or mechanical thrombectomy. N4W - Surgical ICU
An exciting and rewarding nursing career awaits you in our 20 bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit. The Reading Hospital is a Level I Trauma Center and has a rapidly expanding Cardiothoracic and Neurosurgical Programs. Experience working with a variety of different, complex patient populations including surgical trauma patients, cardiothoracic, Transplant surgery (Kidney and liver) neurosurgical, and general surgical patients. Become a part of our team of talented nurses practicing within a dynamic, patient centered, highly technical patient care area. Nursing support staff within our Surgical ICU are an integral part of the multidisciplinary team and ensure the delivery of quality, nursing care.
C1 - Oncology
Enjoy your nursing career on a 27-bed oncology unit that provides care to adult and geriatric oncology patients, surgical gynecology patients, sickle cell patients and in-patient hospice patients. Most patients have a primary and/or secondary diagnosis of cancer and require treatment of chronic and episodic illness, therapeutic interventions, and side effect management. Care is also provided to patients in the terminal phase of illness. Unique services provided include chemotherapy administration and side-effect management, blood administration, management of oncologic emergencies, pain management, psychosocial and spiritual care, and inpatient hospice care. T1 - Cardiac IMU
Join our 30 bed ‘Silver’ Level Beacon unit. Experience working with a variety of different, complex patient populations including Cardiothoracic Surgery, Interventional Cardiology, Electrophysiology, Structural Heart, Heart Failure, Pulmonary and Neurologic (Stroke). Become a part of our nursing support team practicing within a dynamic, patient centered, highly technical patient care area. T2 - Neuroscience Critical Care
T2 has 30 private rooms within the newly built, state of the art T building. T2 specializes in care for the neuroscience patient population including strokes, TIAs, craniotomies, carotid endarterectomies, and other neurological diseases. T2 is also the epilepsy monitoring unit of the hospital, focusing on caring for those with newly diagnosed seizures and ongoing seizure management. The T2 neuroscience team utilizes a collaborative, interprofessional approach to patient care. The team is highly engaged in creating a positive patient and employee experience, exceedingly qualified to meet the needs of complex patients, and striving to deliver the highest quality patient and family centered care.
T4 - Neuro/Trauma IMU
An exciting and rewarding nursing career awaits you in our 30 bed unit specializing in intermediate care of medical, neurosurgical and trauma patients located within the state of the art HealthPlex. This unit offers a variety of clinical experiences and is the location for our established ventilator patients and transplants. Our care team includes close collaboration with physicians, social workers, case management, and pharmacists to provide comprehensive care. Experience working with a variety of different, complex patient populations including Trauma, Medical, Neurosurgery, and General Surgery; practicing within a dynamic, patient centered, highly technical patient care area.
T5 - Ortho/Trauma
T5 is a 30 bed adult and geriatric critical care unit that primarily cares for the following patient populations: Orthopedic patients, trauma patients, neurosurgical patients, joint replacement patients, and medical overflow patients.

Qualifications:Education Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
Experience
- Direct patient care experience preferred, but not required for employment.
Certification and Licensure
- BLS Certification
- If hired for the Transitional Sub-Acute Unit (TSU) at Reading Health Rehabilitation Hospital (RHRH), PA Nurse Aide Certification
