Position Highlights
Summary
+ The Patient Access Representative is responsible for greeting incoming outpatient services patients and visitors, performing outpatient registration duties including entering pertinent patient information, explaining various registration forms, and verifying insurance eligibility for services while providing excellent care and service to patients, guests and fellow employees at all times. This position requires some independent judgment and a working knowledge of department procedures related to work performed to contribute to the efficient operation of the department
General Hours of Work
+ As determined (day, evening, occasional Saturday)
Education and/or Experience
+ High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one or more years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. Bi-lingual experience preferred but not required.
Essential Functions
+ Answers incoming calls, screening as necessary, and transferring as requested. Greets and directs employees, visitors, patients, business representatives and the general public arriving at the facility. Provides general information regarding the facility and department functions and procedures.
+ Communicates with team members throughout various areas within the facility; use of telephone, mobile communication, computer and other office related equipment for this purpose. Operates overhead page system.
+ Processes computer admissions and patient transfers within the facility, interviews patients or relatives regarding personal and insurance information; instructs patients and relatives of related policies and procedures; records and types patient and insurance information and obtains appropriate signature.
+ Ensures all the necessary consents and HIPAA forms are signed and completed. Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of patient information.
+ Preparation of appropriate paperwork for next day’s patient schedules. This may include pre-registration, insurance eligibility checks, gathering of appropriate forms for privacy, consent and signature and reminder phone calls.
+ Processes documents of straightforward nature requiring somewhat expanded knowledge of procedures; check documents for accuracy and completeness of specific entries; maintains files and records of documents processed for ready access; records data onto documents according to standard procedures related to work performed.
+ Notifies nursing staff of patient arrival and routes patient to waiting, testing or therapy areas and as necessary escorts the patient to the appropriate area. Monitors patient waiting room to ensure timely communication occurs with the patient.
+ Responsible for Specialist schedule and maintenance of said schedules. This includes reminder phone calls, cancellations, rescheduling of patients, faxing of schedules, requesting of clinic data from outside facilities, and general maintenance to improve patient and specialist flow. In addition, will understand outreach provider preferences in regards to schedules, patient paperwork, and forms.
+ Handling of patient orders from outreach providers including scanning into patient charts, registering for ancillary services, providing copies to appropriate areas: lab, therapy, radiology, etc.
+ Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
