Summary:
Responsible for processing all requests for services from outside agencies families and community professionals. Triages referrals to the Referral Response/Emergency Service Clinicians for potential inpatient admissions. Ensures that all patients are registered in the hospital information system. Responsible for obtaining and verifying all insurance information and instructing families or referring clinician to obtain preauthorization for hospital services. Responsible for entering in hospital information system any and all updates of changes in address phone numbers and insurances
Responsibilities:
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Is responsible for knowing and acting in accordance with the principles of the Brown University Health Corporate Compliance Program and Code of Conduct.
Receives all requests/calls for service. Obtains necessary demographic insurance and clinical information for potential admissions and Outpatient services.
Triages all emergency/urgent requests for service to the RRS clinician. Communicates all important information obtained about patients and families gathered from the initial and subsequent phone calls or face-to-face meeting to the RRS clinician evaluating clinician or evaluating team.
Schedules emergency/urgent appointments.
Completes the Referral Response Evaluation Log and documentation necessary to open the Intake Medical record. Prepares Intake Chart (including stress plates) in a timely manner for the evaluating/Triage clinician.
Obtains and verifies patient’s funding information. Enters information into CMHC system.
Inform families or referral source of the pre-authorization requirements for treatment. Immediately notifies Utilization Management Coordinator of funding problem or potential problems for emergency/urgent referrals.
Meets with all parents/Legal Guardians on arrival to verify/update accuracy of all demographic
and insurance information. Has parent/Legal Guardian sign all forms answers any questions
they may have.
Responsible for correcting any call changes made to the D.O.C’s call schedule and also distributes changes to appropriate departments and call center.
Responsible for paging and keeping DOC informed when he/she is needed for an Emergency admission evaluation.
Responsible for reporting accuracy of hospitals availability of beds to DOC’s clinicians and
departments as required.
Responsible for the notification of units/Charge Nurse and Front Desk Receptionist of all emergency evaluations/potential admissions.
Notifies inpatient units when a patients is ready to go upstairs.
Prepares daily census report including Admit/Discharge/Transfer notices in a timely manner.
Coordinates with Patient Services Representatives to ensure PSRs obtain any other information from families at the time of appointment to complete the Intake registration process.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Observes all hospital guiding principles and policies rules and regulations including those pertaining to quality improvement infection control risk management and safety.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
High school diploma or the equivalent with some advanced training in social sciences.
EXPERIENCE:
One to three years related experience in a psychiatric hospital or mental health setting.
Must have excellent phone/verbal/interpersonal communication skills.
Must have good typing or data skills.
Must be able to handle multiple functions at same time.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is performed in a psychiatric hospital environment.
