The Pharmacy Technicianassiststhe Pharmacy Manager and/or Staff Pharmacists with processing prescriptions, record keeping and stock support to Pharmacy. The position is also responsible formaintainingshelf stock to ensuremaximumproduct availability and sales. Primary learning challenge is computer operation,accuracyand product knowledge.To be effective in this position you must have the ability to communicate with customers and other employees within the pharmacy.Furthermore, the Pharmacy Technician mustmaintainand follow all board of Pharmacy regulations as well as store and Pharmacy department policies and procedures. Knowledge of pharmacy operations is preferred for this position.Must be organized, be able to work ona number oftasks at one time, and work with minimum supervision.The incumbent mustpossessstrong customer service, interpersonal and communicationskills
Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Assiststhe pharmacist in fillingprescriptions
Verifies and gathers needed demographic and insurance information for written prescriptionsreceived
Contacts prescribers for refill authorization
Inputs prescription code and customer data into computer, printslabels
Maintains salesrecords
Ensures confidentiality of records
Maintains knowledge of drug names
Fills out insurance forms when necessary forcustomer
Assistswith measuring dosages and labelingcontainers
Order,check-inand stock prescription medications
Process prescriptionreturns
Responsible for accurately processing customers’ orders through ensuring price accuracy and productknowledge
- Follows proper currency handling and cash register procedures
- Notifies Pricing Coordinator of department price discrepancies
-Maintainsfamiliarity with allproduct, product location and bottle location
Ensures positive customerrelations
- Properly greets and thanks customers
-Providesprompt and courteous service
-Assistscustomers with product location, questions and refers to Pharmacist asdiscrepancies
Hazardous drug handling
Complies withstandard operating procedures in handling and dispensing of hazardousdrugs
Performs department receiving andstocking
- Fills,rotatesand straightens shelf stock
- Properlymaintainsends and displays
- Pulls back stock
- Verifies invoices with product received and fills necessary paperwork for
Miscellaneous responsibilities include:
-Assistsin ordering
-Pulls bottles of drugs for Pharmacists to fill prescriptions
-Organizes and cleans
-Maintains Board of Pharmacy regulations
Job Requirements
Relevant Experience,Education, Certification, Knowledge,Skillsand Abilities
Ability to communicate through two-way verbal and written communication (speech,hearingand writing).
Ability tooperateand use as needed various office equipment (personal computer, telephone, fax).
Ability to work extended hours, including weekends and evenings.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to write and see things inclose proximity(reading distance).
Ability tocomprehendwritten and verbal communication.
Ability to read/ view computer screens for extensive periods oftime
- Good judgment is required for this position as there may be times when direct supervision may not be immediately available.
