Position Summary:
The Occupational Therapy Assistant Field Work/Instructor will play a key role in the OTA department. This position involves teaching and grading, assisting the AFWC with Fieldwork Level I and Level II coordination, completing administrative duties at the request of the OTA APC and the OTA AFWC, advising students, and maintaining classroom and lab spaces. Other duties include participation in setting up exams, lab practicals, guest speakers, fieldtrips, Level I Friday Fieldwork and Level I Concentrated Fieldwork. The role requires active participation in all required departmental and divisional meetings.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching and Grading:
- Deliver high-quality instruction in accordance with the OTA program curriculum.
- Grade assignments, exams, and practical assessments.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to students to support their academic and professional development.
Fieldwork Coordination Duties:
- Assist the Academic Program Coordinator with all fieldwork-related duties including but not limited to: communication with recognized, affiliated fieldwork sites, input of student and fieldwork site data into various databases, handling requests for information from recognized, affiliated fieldwork sites, maintenance of all OTA student fieldwork files to ACOTE accreditation requirements/standards, updating AOTA Data Forms from each recognized, affiliated fieldwork site, and assist the AFWC in the overseeing of all academic, health, and personal data records for OTA student preparing for Level II fieldwork.
- Support the placement of students in appropriate fieldwork sites for Level II fieldwork.
- Ensure compliance with accreditation and program standards for all fieldwork-related tasks and duties.
Administrative Support:
- Assist the Academic Program Coordinator with assigned administrative duties including but not limited to website maintenance, student file maintenance, data entry into Canvas and Exam Soft, and prospective student tours.
- Help with the preparation and maintenance of program documentation and records to remain in compliance with all accreditation organizations
- Contribute to the organization and execution of OTA program events and activities.
Student Advising:
- Provide general advising to OTA students regarding academic progress, career goals, and fieldwork experiences.
- Support students in navigating program requirements and resources.
Maintenance and Set-Up:
- Help maintain OTA classrooms, labs, and testing spaces, including performing laundry and cleaning tasks as needed.
- Assist with the set-up and breakdown of equipment and materials for exams, lab practicals, and Friday fieldwork sessions.
Meetings and Collaboration:
- Attend and actively participate in all department and divisional meetings.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure the success and improvement of the OTA program.
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree as an Occupational Therapy Assistant
- Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) with a current, unrestricted license.
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience as an OTA.
- Previous teaching or instructional experience preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of academic and professional integrity.
