About the Job
The City of Everett Parks Department is currently accepting applications for an Park Ranger Assistant Day Laborer. This employment will not exceed six months in duration. It is mandatory that the employee in this position contribute to the Washington State Public Employees Retirement System. This contribution is refundable upon request at the completion of employment. A work permit fee of $12.00 per pay period must also be paid to AFSCME Local Union No. 113.
Days and hours: This position is 40 hours per week and requires days, evenings, weekends, and flexible shifts.
NATURE OF WORK
This is a responsible position performing a variety of duties that are necessary to provide a safe environment and excellent experience for visitors to our parks and special events. A DLI Park Ranger Assistant will interact frequently with the public and other seasonal staff, often at short notice to provide quick/efficient problem solving as needed. Work is performed closely with Parks Staff, and under the general supervision of Park Rangers and the Park Ranger Supervisor. The Ranger Assistant will assist full time employees in day-to-day tasks and perform other duties independently. This work includes responsibility for safe operation of vehicles, adherence to policies and regulations related to programs.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
The work conducted by a Park Ranger Assistant will be varied and performed outdoors in any weather and will include trail work, education, and basic maintenance. Staff in the Ranger work group must be prepared to respond to emergent conditions and rapidly changing work types and locations. Successful completion of the tasks will ensure that visitors leave with a long lasting and favorable opinion of our City.

- General understanding of risk management and emergency procedures.
- Enjoys working with all demographics of the public.
- Ability to operate a variety of vehicles including a boat.
- Excellent listening, communication, and organizational skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word computer programs.
- Cleans, sanitizes restrooms, replenishes towels, toilet tissue, soap, and other supplies; empties waste baskets, collects and disposes of garbage and litter; cleans picnic shelters; clears trails and sweeps, rakes and picks up trash from grounds.
- Ability and willingness to assist with volunteer activities as necessary and provides coverage for Jetty Island Days operations including ferry ticket collection and interpretive programing.???
- Knowledge of maintenance of parks, trails, trees, landscape beds, athletic fields, or facilities.?
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability and willingness to exercise effective decision making.
- Ability and willingness to establish and maintain effective working relations with supervisors, coworkers, and the public.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- BA or AA with emphasis in Recreation or Education; OR any combination of training and experience sufficient to provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- 2 years’ experience working in parks and recreation, special event or other programs with children and adults.
- Current certification or the ability to obtain within 1 (one) month of hire First Aid/CPR/AED training.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain prior to employment, a valid Washington State Driver’s License.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain prior to employment, a Washington State Boater Education Card.
- Ability to traverse on unsteady terrain.
- Ability to independently embark and disembark from small water vessels.
- Prior to employment, must submit a motor vehicle driving record abstract.
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
- Must be 21-years or older on start date.
